value of a 272
 

I'm sitting on my dock and the nieghobor yells, "got a question for ya. Bill is thinking about selling his boat, what do you think its worth"?

Boat is a 99' 272 with I believe, a single 310hp in it. The boat is FADED. To the point where you can hardly tell what color it was when new. He bought it new in 99 for the grand kids and then his son divorced the mom... ugly divorce and the grandkids have never been back to the lake. Bill is a fisherman, not a power boater.
So here sits this boat that hasn't even been "summerized" in 4 years so its been sitting like this fogged and full of antifreeze on a lift covered. The boat has 20 hours on the meter.. yes, 20 total hours.

I told me neighbor, "tell Bill to spend a grand on having it wet sanded and buffed and that grand might get him a 5 grand return cause the way it sits, it aint' selling. My guess is, once buffed up, he'd be looking at $18,000 - $22,000."

Then my neighbor about spit his beer out and said, "Bill said he wouldn't take under $45,000 for it". To which I said, "looks like we'll be looking at that boat for another few years sitting on the lift".

I know he's nuts but am I close? The interior is good but it wouldn't surprise me that if you sat on the seats, they'd crack.

Said he paid $80,000 for it.......

I'd say $18-22k sounds about right for that boat with normal wear and tear for a 14 year old boat. However, it sounds like this one has above average wear and tear and who knows what the motor will need after sitting for so long. A year ago I paid $15k for a '98 272 with a 385hp in it. Cosmetically it was in above average condition, but the motor needed work and had high hours so I had it completely rebuilt. In hindsight I wish I had just replaced the motor as I will probably never be able to resell it since very few people want a rebuilt motor even though I upgraded every part that was replaced so technically it is now better than a new crate motor.

I'd love to get $22k for mine so that I can upgrade, and mine sounds much better than your neighbors. I'm thinking low end of your $18-22k range and maybe lower depending how the motor checks out.

I sold my 01' 272 Boss with 150 original hours last fall for $32K. Boat was mint and had 496HO, alum trailer and nicely equipped. 272's are great boats.

For reference sold my 95 272 with a brand new trailer for $20k June of last year (2012) to the first person who looked at it. Boat had 200 hrs, red/blk/wht interior (no Cindy Lauper colors) base 454 with cam/intake/carb/exhaust and every pump, hose, and belt replaced with new. New prop, drive shower, steering damper, rebuilt gimbal, you get the idea. I put a wrap on it, the boat had the standard Baja graphics on the side. I would say mid/low teens for that boat your looking at, base 454 with not highly desirable colors. It is sitting for awhile there WILL be issues that creep up after you get it in the water a few times. My old 272 was the same case, sat on a rack for 5 years and once I bought it and ran it thru its paces, oil leaks started, starter went, sea pump went, on and on. Ended up putting almost $15k into it with engine build, trailer, and goodies. Great boat by the way, had a lot of fun on it.

I have mine for sale 99 baja 272 boss w/454 mag 385 hrs red/wht/ blu colors boat is in great shape! I have it listed for 28,500 and will take less, but all i have gotten was a few low ballers. I want a bigger boat, but i'm not selling my boat for 20k thats all the offers i have gotten.. Two dealers have offered me 25k for trade. You would think i should be able to get at least that cash for mine..

If the boat has no rot, decent interior, trailer, and is mechanically sound..... I'd say $25-$30 k.

Can always put a wrap on it. Great boats.

Needs reupholstered but I knew that going in.

I would be real surprised if anyone will pay 25+ k for a 99 272 with a 310 hp base motor that has sat unused and will have problems from the lack of use, the 20 hrs selling point has been erased by the fading/weathering and lack of use, IMHO, Smitty
