Maybe look at a 500 or 525 EFI drop in with XR drive? I went thru the same thing with our 95 272. Took the 454 out and did all the upgrades (cam, heads, headers, intake, carb, etc) bought props, steering, blah blah and at the end of the day I was going 7 MPH faster. Now , the gains on a procharger are much more significant and the bang for buck is good. It also would be a cool project to do and learn. But remember there might be more bang than you bargain for and you become a boat mechanic instead of a boater.

There are guys here on OSO running a procharged 454/502 on a bravo ;) They all say the same thing. "DON"T HAMMER IT OUT OF THE HOLE". Take it nice and easy on the sticks.

But yes, start thinking of ugrades.

Not being a smart ass, I hope you're fast on the stick when she comes out of the water, because that motor and prop are going to wind up REAL QUICK. If not there' goes the Bravo when it loads up when she lands. Believe me most of my boating is done on the north shore of Lake Erie, and I've spent plenty of airtime just going 40 mph. :boat:

Alot of valid points here, unless you buy a m-1 and keep the boost fairly low just about EVERYTHING on the boat will need to be upgraded. If you just bolt on a m-1 and follow there instructions you essentially just turn up the fuel pressure anytime its under boost to compensate for it not being programmed at all and you take out the thermostat and put a device in that tells computer the motor is fully warmed up so it doesn't think it needs to be in enrichment mode. It really is a COBBLED up approach, don't get me wrong, a TON of hp can be made with a Procharger, I have over a 1000 hp in my 2000 272., it just cost about 4 times what you start out thinking it will, Smitty
There are alot of good tuners now who can re-program a ecu and give it more fuel the right way too if you decide to go forward.

If you pro charge it, you need to do head gaskets, and then buy a prop, then hydraulic steering and good exhaust. No sense forcing more air in if it can't get out.

^^^ Yes very good points! One should have supporting mods for the increase in speeds. At least I already have MLS head gaskets in my 502 :)

Cant say I have ever been flying out of the water. But then again I haven't boated on any real big water with 3-4 footers. Just cattle ponds, and rivers here in Mn. But hell, it dose sound like fun! Maybe next season Ill have to hit up Lake Superior.

^^^ Good point, if your mechanically inclined, start turning your own wrenches & learn as you go. That it self is the best bang for the buck out there.

i am in the process of this right now with a hotter cam, head work, headers, intake, bigger fuel injectors, etc etc. Voodoo what was your gps speed after the upgrade? how much estimated hp did you have with the mods? what prop did you run on it after the work. thanks

is there anything you can do to boost performance to a 454 mag ?

I just acquired a m1 procharged 502 1997 24ft baja 3 years ago. Their is a lot to do to make the system work. The previous owner did some things right and some things not so right. I had the engine rebuilt last summer becasue of the things he didn't do. My boat does 75 gps speed w 2 people with a full tank of gas. I put full hyrdraulic steering. Also, I upgraded my fuel system to an areomatic full pump , and had my mechanic build me an engine like one that would come out of the plant with the procharger on it. Talk to some one that is knowledgeable about them or who knows enough about high performance engines and is willing to learn what need to be down to make all the correct changes and up grades to make the engin last a long time. I am still running on the same bravo out drive. I do take an easy on it. but it goes with out saying if you beat on anything long enough it will break. If you want to talk to me future here is my
email [email protected]. I was new to this game 3 years ago, and found out more stuff about them then i wanted to know. i am not an engine guy or try to be one
