2000 baja 272 /454 mag mpi 385 hp
is there anything you can do to boost performance to a 454 mag ?
|
All depends on your budget and what you have in mind. Nice and EZ = Pro charger. other wise, Pull motor, change cam, heads intake, fuel, headers, re map computer. Blue print hull, Lab the prop. Maybe a shortie drive,

Thanks for replying that was very helpful , ahhh now where to begin.its going to be a long winter
|
Any pro charger you can recomend that you've had experience with ?
|
pro charger is the brand it is belt driven all bolt on items i dont think you even need to remove the intake to install one of those
|
^^^ What he said. Install can be done in less then a weekend, and every thing bolts on. (intake manifold removal depending on what you do with your fuel system, but it takes 2 mins to remove ) You just have to send the computer out for re mapping. There is 2 kinds I believe. M3 = 5 psi boost and M1 = 7 psi ( i believe ) It should net gain you about 200 HP. It is the best bang for the buck out there if you ask me
http://www.procharger.com/marine.shtml Price is about $6,799 I thought I saw. Don't forget about the new prop your going to need to hold the power and then sending it to bblades for labbing ;) another $500-1200. In price comparison headers will run $3-5K and only gain you maybe 30-40 hp (if your feeling lucky) |
If I can throw my two cents in there. I wanted to put a Procharger on my 272, 502. Talked to a lot of boaters and shops that install them, they all told me there was no way the Bravo 1 was going to stand up to all that extra power. So now you need to upgrade the outdrive. On top of that now you're also into hydraulic steering. I've got to think your up around 20k. I've resigned myself to enjoy what I have. Good luck.

There are guys here on OSO running a procharged 454/502 on a bravo ;) They all say the same thing. "DON"T HAMMER IT OUT OF THE HOLE". Take it nice and easy on the sticks.
But yes, start thinking of ugrades. |
The procharger is not a simple bolt on like they make you believe. I would seriously speak to a reputable marine engine builder before going this route. Prochargers are great but need to be set up properly if you want your motor to live a long time. The fuel delivery method they provide is a bandaide. Also, there is a guy up here in Canada who has put a 525 in his 272 and gets speeds of 73 mph.

If you pro charge it, you need to do head gaskets, and then buy a prop, then hydraulic steering and good exhaust. No sense forcing more air in if it can't get out.
