Default Shooter?

Just curious what the consensus was on the Baja Shooter... Its larger, and old enough that it falls down into my price range. Not looking for a 100mph boat at all - but I wondered how the hull performed, and how it did on lake style chop.. Is it a wave crusher? Did it have any demons or common problems throughout the model life?

For the same money is there another model you would suggest instead.

Shooter is not something I would call a wave crusher by any means. They are the same hull as the 272 performance which came from the 250/270.

The only real difference from the regular 272 is the more race looking fairing rather than the big glass windshield.

They run good for what they are and handle well through honest 2-3 foot water but prefer less.

It will need 500hp to be a 70 mph boat.

doc_texoma:

I have a shooter, have had one for about 5 years. I live on a fresh water lake in SC and she has been a great lake boat. I have taken it on a couple of small poker runs and have been fine. Mine has a Carb 454 Mag and runs 62, no gas, just me and a prop with work from BBlades. 58 everyday of the week. Shoot me a PM if you want to talk or have any questions. Mine is also for sale.

My 272 is comfortable on Texoma 95% of the time. Transom, stringer and bulk head ROT would be the concern especially on a Baja that old. I think they stopped making them 20 years ago.

Where do you hang at the lake doc?

The guy that bought mine has it for sale on craigslist in western Kentucky. It is probably the most custom one you could find. I put a 500 efi in it and it would run 71-72.

Hook'em - Deer cove mostly, the islands outside of highport occasionally.. Willis bridge and the sandy beaches by it when the water is at the right level.. I got out of boating for a bit due to a divorce - I had a 32' Chaparral Laser but am looking to get back in this summer..

Will be putting a new forum dedicated to lakes local to North Texas here fairly soon..
