Factory Fresh Water Flush Question?

Hey guys, any of you have the factory fresh water flush on your engines?

I went to flush the engines last night and I must be doing something wrong?

Hooked up the hose to the fitting and nothing came out?

It is like there is a valve somewhere that needs to be turned on?

I had the guardian system on my old 272 and you just hooked up the hose and out the exhaust the water came.

What am I doing wrong?

Thank Mark

That's a good question, Mark. As far as I know, you should be able to do just what you were doing...Thread in the hose and flush.

That's how mine works, but I've got a 496. When I turn the hose on, I get water coming out. Maybe something different going on there.

I have it on the 29, and I just screw it in, start the water, start the engine, and out it comes.

OK, so you do have to start the engine?

That is where I messed up. Having only used the guardian system which does not require starting the engine, I guess I got confused.

I ended up putting the muffs on after I got home from the coast and flushing the drives and engines.

Thanks guys.

Also, make sure the caps are on when you are driving or you will suck air. I am not familiar with gaurdian system, what is that?

On mine, when i hook up the water and turn the water on, it comes out of the lower unit water intakes. I just have a "tee" in my main intake line and the other tee end goes to the hose fitting for the fresh water flush. When I start my motor is stops comeing out of the lower unit and of course goes the other way into the engine.

And, i second what skygod said. Definietly dont want to suck any air in the line while underway.

CigDaze 08-16-2002 08:15 AM

Yep, mine does exactly what Mark in So. MD described.

Thank guys, this is very interesting. The dealer went over all of this, there was just too much to obsorb at the time.

I had the boat in the water at the dock in Charleston when I hooked it up.

Just use to the Guardian which is an after market set up where you flush the engine without starting it, in or out of the water.

I never checked what the water does before you start the engine, I will next time. I'm running low water pick ups, how about you guys?
