Default Considering a 272

I found a clean 1996 272 w/ just 350 hours on it. But is has the 7.4LS EFI.
I'm seeing that is only a 300hp at the prop.

I have an older force 235 w/ a 7.4 that is 330hp (not sure that is rated at prop or at engine). It will get close but not up to 60mph. 55 56 all day, 58 with right load.

Owner of the 272 says it does 60 gps. With the same or less HP, and a bigger boat, I have my concerns about it really doing 60. I'm afraid of getting an underpowered boat.

What else should I look for? Potential issues/ problems?

thoughts please. TIA.

Had a 95 272 with carb 454 base engine, 310hp. With a Mirage+ 23 it was 55-56 mph, touched 57 once. Built the engine with bolt-ons and cam, went to a tweaked Mirage+ 25 and was getting 61 mph with a couple 62s. 272s with 502 Mag run 62 ish mph stock if I recall. Hope this helps.

I have a 2000 272 with a 7.4 330hp and mirage 23+. I am only seeing about 54mph at 4100 rpms. I am in the process of swapping out to a 502

Thanks for the clarification guys. Exactly what I was afraid of. I am sure not going to buy a boat that is slower than my old boat w/ a smaller cockpit area to boot. LOL.
I appreciate the first hand info. Exactly what I was hoping for.

Thanks. That sounds more reasonable. A 502 w/ 425hp can do that. A 454 310hp ain't gonna get to 60 cept for when it's being towed on it's trailer.
