If I were you, I wouldn't just discount a 38 Special that didn't have a gen-set. My guess is that if you get an older boat, you will be rebuilding the gen-set at some point anyway. I would find a boat that has been well maintained and just add the genset later. If I ever get my boat together, I'm going to add a generator. You can find them on ebay pretty reasonable. To me, finding a sound boat is the most important thing, especially when you are talking older models. Good luck!
