To the op,
Don't let the low speeds scare you off if it's in good condition as you can always power up later
One of the members here has a 272 that's knocking the door on 100mph with big power.
See ya
Kelly

An open cockpit boat is VERY windy at the speeds you to run. It's fine if your behind the windshield but it won't be pleasant for people sitting in the airstream.

Yep! Same setup here but running a B1 24p. I would think the 272 with HO would be a little faster so low 60's would be my guess. A 272 Islander would be one really neat boat. If it has been repowered with a 496 then what a nice find. Have him take it to a shop, get the engine scanned and send you the print. For all we know he just can't drive and keeps the bow buried.

Ok I'll jump in on speeds. 2002 292 Islander 496HO B1X 1.5 gears. Best GPS speed in 90* weather and high humidity (typical summer LOTO day) is 52mph. 48mph with 8 people aboard GPS in the same weather. That said, the few times I use the boat before the summer heat humidity sets in (60*, cold water, low humdity), the boat knocks on 60mph. Going off what the boat GPS's in relation to the speedo, around 58mph.

Bottom line: I don't care. It's my family boat.

Interesting dash you've laid out. Can you post a pic of the whole panel?
