What's the story on the drop? Improper rigging, structural failure, stupid operator...?

Sydwayz 09-22-2014 08:53 AM

It was being lifted trailer and to or from (can't remember) to a flatbed transport trailer, with a forklift designed for lifting boats alone. You can see the forks in the picture.

No indication of transom straps, which could have potentially saved the boat, or made the whole thing tumble over.

This boat just hit the market, sheds some light on why the one in question here would be a tough investment to make.

While this one may not have the over top paint, it is set up for pleasure with a nice cabin and roomy cockpit.

There's a 40 OL on fb swap shop right now with built 900sc and sixes claiming 109mph GPS for 110k

Smitty 09-22-2014 12:27 PM

dsmawd350...that's the same one as mentioned above your post.

Since we love our 36 and the room it has, my next boat will be a 40 Outlaw. I will get rid of the Bravo's, put Arneson's on it and swap out the 575 blowers for some 4 liter Whipples. At that point it should be a solid 95 mph boat that won't break. I hope :)

For the money you will have invested you could purchase an early 2000s 42 Outerlimits. Have more cabin, a stand up bathroom, sixes, sick paint and run well over 100mph

Please tell me where I can pick up a 42 OL for 125K that has engines that are going to go more than 200 hrs before servicing is needed. And I do all of my own work and get parts for wholesale, so my cost is way less than what you think and my labor is free.

I will not argue with anyone about the Outerlimits line of boats. They are awesome, just not for me...

Interesting boat. Somebody finally figured out the 40 outlaw with Sixes setup I guess.

I can show you one that was just purchased :) asking price is rarely selling price.

I know the prices of Arneson drives pretty well, and know Rik. Great drives, but they are not cheap, even with your discount. There is quite a bit more time and money that goes into converting, I can tell you this from hands on.

You are gonna 4L Whipple 575s and expect them to have the mainentance schedule of 500 efis?

All I'm saying is, it is never really cost effective to go this route. And to have that time and money in a Baja, it will never turn out good when you go to sell. Even if you have 20k extra in the OL, it would be much less than the losses you would have tied up in the Baja.

Just my 2 cents

Buy the 1997 Baja 42 stepped bottom poker run boat with triple 1000's and #6 drives. Pull two engines and drives and the sell the other. That boat did not top 100.

4bus. If you know of a 42 OL that can be bought for 125k let me know.

offshorexcursion 09-23-2014 12:08 AM

I wouldn't want a 42 OL that could be bought for 125! :picard1:

Pretty sure liquidator was sold for right around that price over a year ago.

40 OL w 900SC and #6

Anyone know anything about this boat other than whats advertised? I know that's only a 9500lb boat w twins and 12000lb w trips, seems like a lot of power for a Baja Transom??

thisistank 09-25-2014 12:01 AM

That 40 was really bad azz. I loved the 6 pack seating and paint. The engine hatch was a neat attraction but totally useless, as was the wing.

This wasn't the only 40 painted with the "lighthouse" paint scheme. And it wouldn't be difficult to slap in 6 bolsters into a 40 OL.

but I'd have to agree with the others, buying and rigging yourself, you'd be crazy. Buying from velocity for 120k? Maaaaybe, if it was fixed properly and ran properly. You'd be basically getting a brand new boat with a new transom motors drives and glass repair. But like others have said, you can buy a whole hell of a lot of boat right now for 120. Sh!t, there's a bad azz tiger with big power and 6's for 80 in the classifieds.

I have passed that boat in my 24 skater a few years ago. Not over 90-100

That would certainly be a disappointment to own a boat with that much engine and so little speed.
