No real "good spot" that it will fit in the dash if you ask me.
About all you can do is mount it to the top of the dash off to one side or the other behind the windscrean. Right above the trim indicators or above the grab rail toward the center i feel would be the best spot

Congrats on the Outlaw!
I have a 272 so can't speak to best location, I have a garmin 620 it is a 5in screen and looks more like an automotive unit (actually is both, can run a automotive or marine map SD card) size wise its great fits more places but in bright sunlit it is somewhat hard to see. A friend has a garmin 740 its a 7 - 7 1/2 in screen marine only and much better in bright sun. I have no idea about other brands, I use the garmin because I wanted the blue chart G2 vision map cards. probably the best choices in garmin are 620/640, 720/740, and 721/741 the 20/21 series have no maps installed and are less money, the 40/41 series have some type of map installed but nothing close to the blue chart so in my opinion are not worth the extra money

I had a hard time finding a spot also. Didnt want the cockpit cover to hit it or block any gauges, stick up above the windscreen, etc.

This mounted in 2 existing holes on my accessory switch alum panel that runs across. It only blocks "driving" view of my fuel gauge.

I have a Garmin 740 fastened to an adjustable ram mount with a suction cup. The ram mount is attached to the boat just above the upper set of indicators. I added a DC power plug on the left side of the dash controlled by one of the acc switches. When not in use I remove everything and store in the cabin.

Could I get pictures of what you have done? I like that idea. Doing it this way I could use the same GPS in both of my boats very easily.

Curious, what are the deets on your new 30? I sold mine through GSC back in August. Hope it went to a good home. Year, power, pics? Congrats again!
