As you can tell by my name, I LIKE BAJA's. We have had a "Blast", "Hammer" 25OL, 33OL and last one we had was the 40OL. All had their place, all were stepping stones for the next. In every case it was well priced in it's level. And performed along with those that were much higher priced. As the old saying went: Bang for the buck!
But what is and has always been the real trademark of the Baja brand was the owners themselves. In it's hayday (before the most recent down turn) there was numerous events put on by Baja groups, and the company themselves had Poker Run boats and traveling displays that attended these events. It gave it a complete cross section of boaters that enjoyed the look, performance and being part of this group that was based on the brand. This all made for a loyal following. You will read about some peoples opinions of certain years. For the most part, that is an opinion based on rumor more than fact. The boats that had the issues were recalled at that time and fixed. But to be clear in the overall scope of production, this was a VERY small number that had issues. Personally, knowing some of the people that had those issues, it may.... Not have been completely the boats fault. Just saying... There was also changes that Baja made during production (Adhesives) that caused the majority of the returns. As soon as it was discovered, it was changed and the problems from there forward were resolved. Like ANY boat, there are those that were taken care of and those that were thrashed. No matter what you are looking to buy, before you pay in full, have it surveyed so you know what you are getting. This is far any and all boats, not just Baja's!!!! |
Super Cat Cove @ LOTO has a new 30 Outlaw w/502's for $ 70 k;)

Absolutely! Owned a 97 outlaw. Owned a top gun and run in or driven many many many high performance boats while with power boat mag.
Boat less right now but getting ready to buy soon. I' always seen to be checking out what's available in the Baja ads. ;) |
Thanks for all the input.

I would, I have owned 3 baja's, a formula, scarab, sonic, and a bunch of other misc boats. I know that nothing I mentioned belongs to the speed demon category but I can say honestly I have liked the Baja's the best and out of what I mentioned I have gotten the best performance as well. I guess it all comes down to doing your research on the specific boat your considering before buying it. you can end up having a bad experience no matter the brand if previous owners abused the boat and you do not look into it enough to prepare your offer with room for repairs that are going to be needed.

I've had two Bajas. Bought my first in 1995, a 1994 272, when I was 45. Great boat! Wife and two sons had many fantastic experiences with it over the ten years we had it until we sold it in 2005. Then, I upgraded to a 2002 36 Outlaw. It was a fantastic upgrade. A very serious and capable offshore boat. Although, because we live in Colorado, I seldom see conditions with over 2' to 3' waves. But when we do its a blast to navigate in them. I would highly recommend the Baja brand. And, of course since my 10 years is up with the 36, it is currently for sale if you are interested. I am now looking at a 40 Outlaw or 442. See my ad on the Denver Craigslist if you're interested.

Baja was always good to me when I sold them and the ones I had were fantastic. Would definately own another one and would rec. them to anyone.

I had 5 Baja's, started with a Hammer and ended up with a 38 Special. I would definitely have another Baja some day.

Currently on my second Baja. First was a 88 240 sport which was a very good starter performance boat. Have owned my 36 Outlaw for a few years now and am very happy with it. It may not be the fastest on the water but it offers the most all around bang for the buck I could want in a boat. Especially for what kind of boating we do locally. It offers a taste of speed and still has all the comforts to spend the night.
