Overall Trailer Width
Hey 30'+ Baja guys I'm thinking ahead (maybe way ahead) on a garage addition. What is the overall width of your trailer (unless the boat sticks out)? Height is not a concern just width, will 9' doors be very tight but cover most Baja models (29, 30, 33, 35, 342, 38 Special) on the trailer?

I will measure the width for you tomorrow. You will need a 10 ft door minimum height. A 9 ft will hit the seats on a 33or 36.
|
My 38 Special takes 9' 2" and have to have at least 10' to clear the top.
We are putting up a 40 x 80 this year and I am going to do a 14 x 10 doors on each end. Fitting it in a 10 ft wide and having it perfectly straight are two different things depending on how much room you have in front of the building. Ever heard of the saying "40 acres to turn around" ? Well pulling one of these with a crew cab dually will get you there...... |
Do not go with less than a 10' wide door. Most boats alone are 8'6" wide. That leaves you 3" to spare on each side on a 9' wide door. The trailer is typically not wider than the boat.
I have 12' wide doors and depending on where I am trying to put my boat in the building, (sometimes I try tuck the boat right up next to the wall) my dually fenders get in the way. |
I have a 33 Outlaw and Manning welded aluminum trailer with a 10' x 10' door. That will be the minimum you would want to use. I have about 8" on each side and maybe 4" of height clearance. Keep in mind the Manning all welded trailer is a little taller than a lot of the manufacturers.

Im in the process of building my detached boat garage.
Go with a 10' TALL door, and as wide as you can( I would say a min of 12' ). My garage door is going to be 10' tall X 16' wide. I even passed on a FREE 2 year old insulated door because it was only 14' wide. I want all the room in the world. Old saying says, Go big or go home. To anster yo question, my trailer like 95% of trailers out there is 8'6" wide. DOT limit with out permit. Majority of the performance boats will be 8'3" - 8'6" wide. How ever some boats might be a touch wider and push the limits with DOT,. IIRC isnt a 35 or 38, Donzi 9'3" wide? |
