700sci in outlaw 25
I've been looking at putting a 700sci in the near future of my 99 Baja outlaw 25. I want to know if anyone has done this. I also wanted to get some suggestions on best drive set up for it. I was thinking, imco scx upper and sc lower. What do you guys think?

With all due respect.... I think you have too much money if you are thinking of spending that kind of money on that type of boat. You could spend THOUSANDS less by adding blowers or turbos and upgrading the drives. And no matter what, it will still be a Non Stepped hull with a un-ruley ride.
But if you do feel it is is the only route route to go, NSX Drive or BMax would be the top of my list. |
I think it'd be alittle much for that boat. But hey if you do decide I'm only 50 miles from ya. Where ya going boating ?!?

I'd like to see it. Many questioned Wildcard's investment with a 600sci 25OL too. If it's what you want to do, then do it. I have a bored, roller 525sc swap, k planes, Imco box and steering into my 25OL with an 8+mph gain and it runs better at 75mph properly set up than it did stock. A friend of mine runs well into the 80s with a Whippled 454 stroked to a 496, dry exhaust, k planes, raised x, Imco box, Imco SCX upper and -2 lower in his 25OL. Runs like it's on rails. My friend just sold his 90+mph 25 Tantrum, 900+ horse tall deck. Just with boats of this size, you have to "drive" the boat, be really wise with the throttle and use the power when the condition's are right.

I go down to Kent Narrows Md

Cool and great looking boats!
I agree that 600-800hp would be a blast in these hulls. Definitely look into the SCX upper and SCX lower please don't use a SC or BMAX lower, they still have junk xr gears that will wear out. Normally it's always better to sell and upgrade to another boat that's already faster then pouring money into your own, but as long as your aware that it will take WAY more money then it's worth, enjoy the build! |
Suggestion: Pickle your old engine and drive, put it back together when you sell the boat down the road.

DO IT! Just remember good speed requires a lot of setup in a Baja. i.e. optimum drive height/X dimension, extension box, lots of prop tuning, good set of trim tabs to keep it planted, hydraulic steering to keep it going straight safely at speed. Keep us posted on what you plan on going with. The famous Wild Card 09 was doing 85 with a 600sci with lots of setup, so a 700 would be very interesting...

Couldnt imagine getting that motor to clear the hatch even with spacers, and you may have to move the bench forward to clear the gilmer belt drive for the blower.
Having done a similar set up just for kicks one winter in a islander, sans engine cover and rear seat i can also tell you the the engine noise is alarming. It goes from being a baja to a schinda v drive . You will be screaming at the person next to you at cruising speeds. But it will be fun |
700sci w/ SCX upper/SC lower in a 25 Outlaw would be badass IMHO. We have a similar setup in a 26 cat and it is one fun boat.
