Baja 275 with 600 SCi update Projekt
Hello guys
First,sorry if i find here not all the right words to explain my projekt! i drive now some years baja 232 in germany and swap last winter to an 275 in mint condition.boat was 2005 with 496 Ho from first owner and only 49 hours on it! I modified last winter the engineroom and some inner parts,like Jl soundsystem and more.Boat was change to new 14pin harness ,smartcraft gauges and eco monitor and some more.Batterys in the rearseat and so on! i take my 8.2 from the 232 in it! It was the new 8.2,no old engine.also uptated with whipple software and cmi. the 275 make 72,7 mls on the smartcraft gps! now this engine is sold and i get 600SCi with 62 hours on motor and new headers.I have an new Hp transom for it and new XR drive! thats the facts.as here in germany is not much knowing about projekts like this,and i think i need next weeks some infos,i like to start this here! maybe anyone done before an 600er or more in the 275?? i hope the new xr with hold a long time,as my boat is only for summerholiday and some days on the rhine river here. i drive no races or so,only sometime some fast minutes! best regards, Michael |
I would add a full Hydraulic steering all the way to the helm if you haven't already. You're gonna need it once you get that 600SCi dialed in.

i try 2018 the boat without hydraulic steering as the budget is to low to buy all! the 600 SCi is heavy enough for my money! Steering and transom are new and i make some extra bolts without play for the standart hydraulic part!So the drive is real straight! At moment standart dualtrimzylindertabs from boat leveler mount and i like to make longer plates under them.I real like to do this upgrades next time,but need money for all this goodies! 496 with Whipple maybe makes more Power,but hold not long time! The 600er has much more Air for tune up over 900 HP next years! But then also need other drive.For first time i hope the new XR with hold,and also have 2 Year gurantee from merc. Some questions about the engine! make 2008 and 100 hours used.Then get new longblock and headers from merc 2010 and used 60 ours.Then stored in icefree garage and also inside conserved with storeaged oil!Now i will awake the engine after 6-7 Years! My plan! All fluids new,impeller new and starting without sparks to get oilpressure. then sparks in and try to start normal! Are there any other options to do??? I real like to show some pics from my Baja ,but not allowed to load up here! michael Michael |

Ok,i like to change valvesprings as engine staands some years in one Position.
Did anyone know what partnummber Compcam has for fitting springs? I like to order them from there. A friend use 929-16 springs but i am not shure if this not to hard! Michael |

Small updated! I bought now PAC Valsesprings from Teague,as they the orginal ones from Merc.As i am no Racer,i think its best to let them orginal. Also get with much luck here on OSO and Driveguardian that now will be adjust for my boat and engine. The SCi will picked up next weekend and than it can go forward! Michael |
Sounds like a cool project. Yes to hydraulic steering and some good tabs if you want to use the power in less than good conditions. I like the mercury ITS system because it incorporates the HP transom assembly with a very clean hydraulic steering setup as well as 7” of set back.
As far as the valve springs go, or all the valve train for that matter, if you ever want to add power via Whipple upgrades or something I would look into stronger springs and better rockers. lets see some pictures! |
At moment i lost no idea about Power over 700 HP!
That is much enough for an XR ,with Driveguardian or not! There are some other works that must be mach before! ITS Box sounds very good for me to as i love the clear look! But first all must run and then see what next winter brings. By the way,the 700sci have same valves and rockers,so they not to bad first time. I think only about new springs at moment,as the 50 hours old engine stands now for 7 years.so better change springs or not???? But thanks for all tipps! Michael |
Yes the 700 and 600 are very similar. I believe cam, intercooler and evening are the only differences. And if you talk to many who have worked with theses motors they’ll say the stock valve train is questionable at best in these motors. There were a run of the rockers that went into these motors that fell apart, dropping needle bearings etc everywhere. Not trying to scare you or get you worried, just sharing some things I’ve found through my research. If it were me I would change the springs, stock replacement should be fine, and I would replace the rockers as well. Much easier to do these things before she goes in the boat.
Either way way that’s a cool motor you got and that’ll be a fun ride! Looking forward to watching your progress. |

I am happy about all infos like this about the rockers.I am one of the safe drivers that try to do all that get no fault at driving.Can say i have all sensors,starter,lightmaschine,boostvalve and much more,maybe all electric parts from the engine in my boat!!! Also have buy orginal connectors from the IAC vent and build an wireparts with 1A Fuse to stick between as i read there is a problem.When IAC fault,it kills often the PCM.Must buy 15 connectors in and 15 out,so if someone needs this wires with fuse and orginal connectors,get back to me. i have build some sets. Also i have checked long time the diffrences between 600/662/700 SCi. Only the first series 600 SCi up to engine nummber 0M962885 has a 10mm lower intercooler.All 600 after this nummber have all same intercooler like 662 and 700sci..But the older 600sci have same power options,as this aford it not real.I have ask what makes an update from intercoolers,as the newer will fit,but all say makes nothing. best ist to look for more waterflow in every from this inercoolers.(i work on this). For example 662 has only other software and an other pulley on the supercharger! Not more.I have ched partlist long time!! So only first serien from 600sci have 20mm shorter belt for the charger(10mm lower so 2x 10mm shorter belt! My engine was build 2008 ,first series 600sci,but get end 2010 complet new longblock and headers from merc in warranty(cmi old series crack and kill the engine in the warranty time).first they mount new lonblock with new old cmi series,but before 10 hours they change again the cmi for new version. Had to do the same thing when I was a platinum member after the change so now sure what I was paying for...? Was told that’d be fixed a number of times but it never ways. Anyways. Here’s a little motivation for you. Still working on dialing mine in... 2005 25 Outlaw. From what I’ve read the 275 and 25 bottom halves were very similar.

Here is the buddy and pics from old engine!As you can see i like the clean style.Pics is with full working engine and boat.all hide like i love it.Airblower and shift linkage in the plattform.behind plastic canal for all wires and gas cable and so on.

Yeah i build a good replica from an 520 with my 8.2!! Runs very good with biggest Whipple PCM update and CMI.I see 73 Mls best on the Ecomonitor with added GPS.
The 496 was first that gone after buy the boat.Then clean engineroom,close all holes and so!I make some alloy plates fitting,but mount not last winter as i want the powerdecoat first and then make in! My old motor is now in an 25 Outlaw and there only 2 KmH slower than the 525 there was before in! News!
Back from checking the 600 SCi 100%! Engine looks good and i buy! Put all sparkplugs out and check Cylinder inside and go in exhaust with an Mini Camera for smarthone with light and 5 inch lenght! No sign of rust or usage.Engine Longblock are only 60 hours and came 2010 new.I check also the colour of the Rockers and there are the new ones in,no Crane Gold! Next time make all fluids new and clean gas system before make a restart after 7 years storage. Is there anything to do at the supercharger then make new oil in? Next coming Question is how to connet Headers with the endtipps! A siltentcoise is a must have for me.
I have 2 option but not shure if both fit! First pics show diverter,made from cmi,to use the 600er with same setup like 496/8.2 engines with standart Risers! Other option is a diverter from Corsa but here i am not shure if it is for same setup! remember the old bigblocks have endtipps some cm lower than the 496 engines. somone can say some words to the corsa diverters??? Some Updates!
The Motor was prepared now first first season! Waterpump gets new oiland impeller and stailess srews.new spare pump was fit with Hub in right distance,so can easy change if ever problems. motoroil was drained and new in.I can turn the engine at the big crankshaft pulley with my hand direct,so there is nothing blocked anywhere in the motor.The sparkplugs was out and next step is to turn with the starter to get oilpressure. nexts days i will drain the complett gas system,as the stuff in is now 7 years old.the waterseperator was half full with it,but the condition from this gas was not to bad.I think the engine will direct start with new gas. Belt become also new and some other parts. The Valvesprings,i will be stay next season! engine only 50 hours old and silver grey rockers in it! so not the bad Crane gold ones,i think! Or anyone mean change the springs is a must,as engine has been stored since last 7 years now without turning!!?? Small Update and some pics!
Engine is ready for go in and i do some work at the boat! I have run outside half an Hours without any problems.Checked with rinda!Make all gas hoses empty and fill new gas in.Starts after 2-3 seconds! All oils changed 2 times and now new sparks in!Wait only for the driveguardian. After making new Chargerbelt on it i found sooth running bearings from the small chargerpulles,but they have a bit play! so direct new staninless bearing in them now! i think there are very poor bearings orginal in it,as there no size or manufature on them!Now all new! The Engineroom becomes some alloy plates.I make them fitting now and let them then powdercoat for longtime nice optic.Also the new watertank for shower that an friend weld from alloy. Need for engine now an nice whipple Flame arrestor and hope to find an used one next weeks.carbon Cover für waterreservoir is on way! Today i do some work on the engine! A friend make me new bigger waterinlets for the intercooler!
Also i get an orginal new set CMI Silentchoise diverters for my engine!CMI build very well with real rear watermixing and an tubular ring in the front at the flange.A bit like the plate under the 496 risers. After first check about size from the diverters and the endtipps in my boat,i realize that it will not fit together.My tipps over one inch higher and over one more out every side. The first supercharged season go slowly to an end here in germany!
To adjust the engine with the driveguardian was very strange and work only with an orginal drive shaft! The alignment must bei absolut perfekt with the DG or drive will not fit. I make 50-60 hours without any probs on the engine.Best speed see 81 mls,but with some tricks! I take all weight in the front cabin out for this! bed and all hardware that can be take out! Also the subwoofers and ampliefer! Near 80 kg! Normal speed ist 78-79 mls in freshwater. My problem is missing hydraulic streering now and maybe big tabs.At topspeed the 275 beginns slightly to pending from left to right and you must get off the throttle then. With loaded boat in holiday,cooling box and 2 pallets beer and so the boat runs very stable and no chinewalk but only 75-75 mls. I have add an custom made alloy tank for shower,sparepropholder,new selfmade carpets in blue(want to make the boat more blue in and outside over the winter).Some Blue leather in the cabin! I try next step now to find an ITS box or maybe an Add-On steering. Here some actuall pics! Small update!
At end i have test and Hydromotiv P5-X in 28 and love this Prop.Only 1-2 mls slower that the 28 Bravo. For next season the Bravo has now an Lab from only known comany in europe that can do it good. I work now on the cooling system as i try to make it a bit effectiv that standart is! A Sportmaster -2 lower is on way to me in 1,35 with set new gears in 1:50. I will change gears and maybe podercoat the lower. For more water throug the headers,i have an plan but not 100 & shure what way is best!!??Backboard header allways a bit hotter then other sider!Get a bit brown on top tube only on warm saltwater. I like to use the Waterpickup from the Sportmaster,as all say it make much more water in the engine! Then i like to have stage 2 hardin pump with one intake for water and seperate outlet for IC and engine! My silent coice from cmi have restrictors in (9,5 and 10,5mm)that i can open if waterpressure go to high with the Sportmaster. What your suggestions to this cooling?? Or is engough to use only hardin stainless housing on seawaterpump,reroute the IC with an T after the pump? Or feed IC direct from seatrainer?? Many options???? Michael |
I'm curious how the 1.35 gears run/work. At one point my 2000 272 Baja ran 99.5mph gps (took ALOT of hp to get there).Using 1.50 gears it turned a 32 labbed bravo 4 blade to get there at 6000. With my everyday pulley setup it ran 95/96 turning a labbed bravo one 4 blade 6200/6300. So I decided to try 1.35 gears with 26,27 and 28s, boat seemed less responsive and couldnt quite run its normal number, I switched back. I also put a -2 lower on at one point, boat did not like it and was very dangerous BUT I was running much faster than you, I think when you get into the 90s the boat rides so high out of the water anything you do to raise drive causes problems.

By the way,i want no ,135 lower,but it was as it was, but seller give me a set new gears in 1,50 with it! so i will use the new 1,50 gears,as at moment my props are real perfect for the setup. 28 bravo lab and and hydromotiv P5-X 28 from BB with lab.So will not test with 1,35 as then need again new props! Also i will not add more power to the engine,because i want to use it some years and its enough! How much HP you need for this Speed??? I will only add ITS Box and the shorty on it and hope to make the rides a bit safer! Try to get it in the 80 + mls and thats ok for me! So i try to look for bit better cooling system to make it more stable! What happend when only mount a little smaller pulley for short test on the charger without changing the PCM??? I think this work not or???? Michael |
Do a test of 1.35, 1.5 and 1.65 to see what your speeds are. All the new Bajas come with 1.65's. I suspect Fountain is finding speed with the 1.65 setup.

Hmmm,i have no props to test and my will not work! Now is winter and time to take lowr in parts and powdercoat.Ideal to check bearings and rebuild with new seals.I will complett then with new XR upper.Thats the ground why i want not add much more power.Hope that the Xr stay long as i also have add an driverguardian.
Maybe 1,65 will be a good way,but 1.35 is other turn. Here in Germany is it not easy to find big Prop for tests,as not much boarts with more than 496 run here.
