New Owner- Steering Question
Hey all, new guy here. First of all wanted to say that this site was instrumental in finding the right boat! So much good info.
I recently bought an 07 Outlaw 30 SST. Twin 496 with Latham steering. The steering doesn’t have a “lock to lock” like other boats I’ve driven. Is this common with the hydraulic system? Any thoughts?

Yes! The wheel will continue to turn once the drives are as far as they can turn. Makes low speed maneuvers pretty difficult. Now the question is how to fix?

There is no mechanical connection in the steering system, that will give you an exact specific amounts of rotations lock to loc lock, but at each end of the stroke, the wheel should come to a stop....you can get additional movement if you oscillate the wheel back and forth slightly, that’s just due to the valving and is normal.

Sounds to me like it may have air in the lines, but I'm not 100% sure on that by not seeing everything first hand. I would suggest contacting Latham Marine on Monday when they open. They are very helpful with any issues you have with your steering system.
