2001 33 outlaw???
What to expect from these. Any known non engine issues to be aware of. Are they as good in rough water as claimed. I’d think however have no direct experience with.
tks john |
I had one awesome boat , is the SST package ? ride is good 24* bottom mine had 502 mag mpi's huge cockpit nice cuddy with V birth..........some had 4 bolster seating plus the rear bench

The 33 is a great riding boat. 3 footers in Lake Huron are no problem. My 1999 will be for sale this spring.
guss |
Great riding boats. Huge cockpit and having 4 bolsters is an option.
There were some years that had issues with cracked stringers in the bilge |

There were some years that had issues with cracked stringers in the bilge X shaped bracing underneath the engines on early 36’s The 33 is a great boat, well balanced, nimble IMO the best boat they made |

X shaped bracing underneath the engines on early 36’s The 33 is a great boat, well balanced, nimble IMO the best boat they made I know a guy at my condo complex bought a used 33 and after purchase found at least one cracked stringer that he had to get fixed, but don't know any details. |
Tks guys. I saw a used one minus engines for sale and always assumed they were a nice ride in Great Lakes. My 28 challenger was a fantastic ride with the V all the way to the transom. Sacrificed speed but was a heck of a nice ride. There’s no pad on them is there? Only problem I’m facing is the drives not holding up to the power. Bravo 1’s. I’ve got a pair of NA 565’s near complete.
I’ve been in a lot of different boats in the 28 to 42 range and can’t stand the re-entry hard hitting type. 24 V is hard to beat in that length I’d think anyway. |
no pad notch or steps.........wish BAJA would of built a stepped hull

Good to know and yes step in the 33 would’ve been tits. Wonder what speeds a pair of 725’s would run. |
probably low 80's, they weight around 8k empty with bbc's, mine ran right around 70..............Speedy weighs less than a 33OL...........lol
|
Always loved the 33 outlaws. Great lines, great layout (cockpit / cabin), predictable running. Just all around great boat.
You can always go with SCX's. I know where you can get some ;) https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...c01b1b37c9.jpg |

https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...99946488ea.jpg I would buy it in a heart beat If I could find it. It’s the exact setup up I’m looking for. This is what I have now. It’s at LOTO. https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...ef7863dd4.jpeg |
I sold that 33 OL to a guy up north MI ? then it ended up at LOTO a few years back, I think it was traded to Big Thunder call Eddie Champion and see if he recalls where it is

They have a rounded keel, not really a pad, not a sharp keel, it’s 24* though
https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...b76c17131.jpeg was hoping for high 80’s to 90 for speed but I get it. The 496/425hp run low mid 70’s??? |
these hulls are not speed demons..................buy one and lets us know...........:boat:

Anybody recall at what point from the stern the keel is rounded (approx). Pretty amazing how many positive things said about the 33. Surprised me some but that’s great!!!

I’d talk to offshorexcursion - Kevin about the 33 outlaw if you haven’t already. He had one pretty built up. Not sure what he saw for speeds or his HP but I believe procharged 502s?

John, a buddy of mine has owned a 33 BAJA for the past 16 years. Been on it 100 times and I was always impressed with that boat. Cockpit is the best/biggest I think Ive ever been in. Not a speed demon, but a real nice looking/functioning boat. For the money, you cant beat a 33 Outlaw. The one thing I will say that sucks is, there isnt alot of room in the engine bay to move and work. Its VERY tight in there. A Top Gun is a dream to wrench on compared to the Outlaw.... But as long as you have reliable power...who cares!!

How’d did the 33 ride compared to your Fountain. In 3 to 4’s… |

tks Kevin very good to know. Wonder how they’d compare to the 33 powerplay. I’d imagine similar but I’m thinking a little wider probably? I always liked the looks and size of those also. Don’t see many of them around.

was hoping for high 80’s to 90 for speed but I get it. The 496/425hp run low mid 70’s??? They run low 70’s with HO’s on average. Kevins boat and my boat have the poker run/ Simpson netting cabins I don’t know about Kevin’s, but mine had Decolite stringers, so ours aren’t the average pieces to judge by, these are lighter in the front which help with performance. I Believe Kevin’s had Procharged 500EFI’s ( probably 750 ?) mine had modded 575SCI’s that were probably 675, both have Stellings boxes. I believe Kevin’s boat ran high 90’s mine would run high 80’s to low 90’s. Are your engines 565 cubic inch or 565 hp ? |

Just to clairify, when we see 4ft seas in CT, you are running in long Island Sound (open salt water) and the waves can come from all different directions. So 4 ft seas to me is pretty snotty. I realize many on here run can there 38 ft offshore super boats in 6-8 ft seas all day without spilling their beer, but Im alittle more conservative when it comes to wave height...

I heard there was another one as well but never actually saw it or knew of the owner. |
Love the 33, many say it's the best hull they made. Might not be the fastest but it's a solid, planted ride, not light and squirrely. Tons of cockpit and cabin space. The older ones like mine had a lower X dimension and are a hair slower than when they raised it in I think 2004 or 2006? Easy solution is -2 shorties but I never got that far as it's always been a great turn key boat. Even with the lower X I can hit 75 every day and have seen 77 many times in the right chop. With -2s it may have seen 80. I'm only 540hp/570tq so I think the question about 725 power is likely a 85mph boat, especially with the higher X.
My 33 is for sale. https://delaware.craigslist.org/boa/...461189901.html The CL ad has a full description of everything I could think of about the boat and trailer. https://www.dropbox.com/sh/dwpcsutwa...Y7u9qRmMa?dl=0 The dropbox link has 65 pictures and 7 videos of the boat. https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...4aa0b86c7b.jpg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...703dd7c1be.jpg |

Your boat has held up well ! Looks great and runs great. It should make a great boat for someone looking to get into a nice clean 33.
