absent but not dead
I have been away for some time
health, life etc so now in our new golden years were are looking at a smaller, nice used to get back in the swing 06 242 islander thats more in line with my old self now days 496 mag with only 338 hrs i have to call the place on monday, its at grand sport center in IL so there is a drive to go fetch it other than normal engine questions, is there specific issues i should look at on this boat? it does show a gauge with back glass having moisture, but gauges are an easy fix its a MO boat and pics of prop ...look likes it corroded or needs some serious polishing of the stainless, maybe the lake water is HARD the pictures they have online show a few scratches and maybe a few threads on the sun pad that need a small restitch but the boat over all looks very very clean for 19 years old thanks pics in my album |
2006 Baja 242 Islander — Grand Sport Center
Assuming this is the boat...it looks really nice. Grand Sport typically has a great reputation, I don't think you could go wrong. The fogged gauge is not a big deal, easily fixed. The hard water stains on the prop are indicative of electrolysis from the on board charging system whilst docked in a slip...again, nothing that some C.L.R. doesn't fix right up. This is likely one of the last boats that Baja built...so kind of cool to have a piece of that History! Looks like 532 hours on the hour meter so the engine has been replaced/rebuilt within the last few years to have only 337 hours on it. |
We did the same, back to a little Baja for our golden years. Good luck on your hunt. GSC is a standup operation.

Take a screwdriver, or something similar with a rounded, plastic handle, and tap on the transom around the transom assembly and the engine stringers around the engine mounts, listening for dead spots. Baja was known to just drill holes and run lag screws into the stringers for the engine mounts, and to just cut holes through the transom, bolt everything together with silicone and a prayer. As has been noted, it looks like it has sat in the water a bit, and soggy/rotted transom and/or stingers are a real possibility. The boat looks to have been well taken care of, so you may well be OK here, but it doesn't hurt to make sure. See if they'll let you keep the Rinda. :ernaehrung004: Thanks. Brad. |

Brad. yes its at grand sport center in Illinois Didn't catch the hours difference Thank you I plan to call sales in morning And drill some time Its a 15 hr drive up i just npticed on the prop its a 23 , i have read many different pitches..surprised its 3 blade maybe its a replacement??? So i will see if they video tapping the hull and ask about the hours the Danforth anchor looks like it got treed in a lake have to use mushroom ones here Again thanks all to the replies also look at the 32 fever. Bad thing is I was eyeballing a 26 ft formula it hadn't moved, decided hey its time Next day gone |

The TechMate engine scanner. i doubt they’ll let you have it unless they got it with the boat. If they don’t, and you end up buying the boat, get one. They are invaluable for diagnosing problems. Thanks. Brad. |

Brad. i talked to max this morning, what a nice guy, answered my hard questions without pause, that's so refreshing to talk to folks that actually give a crap about customers , great conversation we had. i am tossing dice around now to pull the trigger he says they do a live dyno with the purchaser and as well as a host of other things boat is uber clean, except the potty storage area, it needs some carpet cleaner or new carpets |
