I'll call him and pick his brain after the holidays. Thanks for the info. Hopefully I can put something together in my price range, I would like to have a decent power increase for this season, don't know what is going to take place, probably the most economical path to 50-80 hp. Later, I'll keep you posted....;)

A4.....remember that if you originally set up your 509 for all around reliabilty and driveability and that is what you ended up with. A nice solid torque monster that accelerates like a rocket.
If you start setting it up for more top end hp...how often are you going to use it? Especially if it get you close to 80in that hull? I would think less than 10% of your time on the water. Something to ponder..................

Good points....that was what I was saing up top, I really like the base setup I put in this thing. Just want to squeeze a little more juice outta her. However, I would not mind calling the guy from Erson and see what kinda cam he thinks I should run. That and headwork may net me some econimical power without going the huffer route. I'll have to call J Spencer as well, get his thoughts. We'll have to see, plenty of time to figure it out.......

I'll call you today about the race thing.......

Allan
What happened to the blower idea?

Allan4 12-21-2002 07:30 PM

Todd, I built the motor to be NA, so the cr is about 9.9:1, maybe a little less. I could probably get away with a few pounds of boost from a 250, but it could be risky. I did not think it would be to much of an issue if I went very conservative, but the genreal consesus is I will greatly increase my meltdown potential. This motor has been flwless. 70 hours, ran very hard. Never so much as a hicup from it. I would hate to toast it by dong something stupid. Chances are it would be okay, I think Charlie and Hadley are correct, but just not worth the worry and chance of ending my boating season early. I can break it down after next season when it makes more sense to freshen it, then I can pop some 8 or 8.5 pisotns in it and be safe and it will then be a true blower motor with a cam change to help regulate some of the increased cylinder pressure a blower will make. So.......I REALLY want more power for next year. I am asking around about options. I hate to stray too far from the base package for the reasons I said above and the things Ittlfli mentioned. May as well do it right next year if that is what presents itself a year from now.

I figure some head work and a bump up in cam size and that might be the route to take. We'll see, but I wnat to do something....I hope. Funny how things change:( :( I'll know more after the holidays when I can make some phone calls. If I can pick up atleast 60-80hp for reasonable, the motor is coming out. Later.

That sounds like the smart thing to do! You hate to end the season befor it is over because of weather.
