Dead down here, someone think of something fun.....
I know it is winter and all, but we need to spice things up a little. What are some fun topics. Let's see.......
|
A couple years ago we had a New Years party at my parents house on cumberland. We all jumped in at 11:55 got back out and jumped in at 12:01. Something about wanting to be the last and the first in the lake that year looking back I think we were truckin nuts as the towels we took down to the lake were frozen by the time we got back to the house. I guess we killed a lot of brain cells that night

I just read your post, I think that is pretty funny. You can really think up some stupid things (and they always sound smart at the time) with a little alcohol. Did you get any kind of notoriety for being last and 1st one in that year? If you didn't, you sure deserve it. Thanks - Eric

If I have the heads worked and match them up with the intake and go with a bigger hydro roller cam, will I hit 570-600hp?? What would you suggest I do?? I need to e-mail jdnca1, he has a FREAKIN' 840 FT/LBS/TQ NA MOTOR......granted it's 632 cubes!!:D :D Thanks, Allan |
I would do all you listed and go with a Merlin single plane manifold over the air gap. It will result in more HP especialy over 4500 RPM, and your throttle response will not suffer enough to be noticable. If you match port that intake, increase cam, go to a Nickerson stage 5 850 (980cfm), and twist the motor 5600 to 5700 RPM 600 HP could be reality. Head porting will help, but may not be totally necessary at that low of RPM. A good clean up bowl blend would suffice. If you are willing to run a solid roller 600 HP will be no problem. I have some cam advice on the solid roller thing if you like. Corey had a 502 that was in the 600 HP range in his Bandit and it ran close to 80.

You don't think I will lose too much tq with the current set up and a single plane? I am looking not spend more than $500-$700. So, changing intake, carb and valve train are outta reach. I have had a little minor bowl blend work, machine guy (Jimmy Spencer in Indiana) said the heads had bigtime potential, whatever that means. I am just brain storming. I want more power, have limited funds and cannot go with a blower. Kinda hampers the effort, if you know what I mean. Plus I would like to stick to hydro rollers for the time being. Also I like the way I set the motor up, and really want to keep the basics as they are. If I can add 50-80hp thru headwork, etc....then I am going to yank the motor and do it. What sort of power increase would you guess at with just what I mentioned before, only new part being a new stick?? Thanks for sharing the knowledge bro!!

If you are only wanting to spend $700.00 I wouldn't mess with the heads. A good full port job will run around $1000 and will probably net you 50 HP. I would step up the cam a bit and change the intake to a single plane design. You will not loose very much down low and will likely pick up on top end. As for the cam I would recommend Erson and a custom ground hydraulic roller. Steve Tanzi at Erson is hard to get a hold of but when you do he will design a custom grind that will be right for your motor and since you have a baseline you will gain power. Your air gap will sell for $150 to $175 especially if it is only 1 season old and looks good. If you are willing to turn the motor 5600 to 5800 RPM 575 HP is still attianable with those changes. What exhaust are you running? The 850 Holley is OK, but the 502 would like something in the 1000 CFM range for best WOT performance. Don't be afraid of a little more cam. More lobe area makes more power as long as there is some cylinder pressure. When you are ready I will give you Tanzi's phone number. I know he is off unitl after the New Year.

Okay man, I am running gil's with 6" risers, not much concern about reversion. How much dur and lift should I go with if I go with Erson?? I have no idea what I am going to end up doing, just trying to get enough info to make a decision.
Do you think I can get away with jetting my 850?? Limited funds........ Thanks man.....A4 |
The 850 is fine, just not the BEST. Jetting should be pretty close to the factory settings. As for cam numbers you will need to call Erson and speak to Steve Tanzi and only Steve Tanzi! He knows his ****!!! Mention me (Craig) and Corey (we saw him 2 weeks ago at the PRI show in Indy) and he may surprise you with his prices. Here is his number. 800-641-7920. You may need to try for a while to get him, but it is worth the effort. Have all your pertinant info ready and describe your exhaust as good flowing manifolds, but not headers and he will get the drift. Let him know you want to turn 5600 to 5800 RPM. Let me know what he says and you will be off to a good start! He hasn't steered me wrong yet!! He usually likes bigger cams than other conserative manufacturers!!:D
