Default External Steering on 33 Outlaw

I am in the process of adding horsepower in my 2000 33 Outlaw. Hope to get in the low 70's for speed. I don't have external steering now. Has anyone put on the add on systems? I really don't want to go the full system and dig into the back of the dash. My wife says the boat is too stiff for her to steer now and I have heard that the add on system makes it stiff on idle but what about up on plane?

I have a 32' which is basically the same hull as yours. I run full Marine Machine and installed myself. No problems.

Since you do not have a molded platform you can mount the rams on the outside of the drives. This will give you greater steering range. Try to assure the base of the rams are in the same line (or as close as possible to) the drive shaft line.

Yes it's a little stiff at idle especially if your trying to turn the wheel quickly, you get used to it pretty quick.

My 7 year old daughter can drive it, no problem.

You'll love the safety and stability. You can actually take your hands off the wheel in heavy seas at speed. You get no feedback or backlash from the wheel.

I'll never own another fast boat without it.

Those are my thoughts also.

I have HP500s with Latham steering (factory) on my '33. I agree with jt29olhp500s and bajalion, wouldn't own another boat without it. In terms of stiffness, I think you'll find its much smoother and requires less effort to steer. I know its a few bucks to retrofit, but if you're spending the bucks on more HP, I'd allocate some to steering (easy for me to say since I've already got it)
