Good topic.
Hey Doc, I have to disagree with ya on the flame arrestor. I built a carbed 509ci for my 24 Outlaw. One day I decided to see if the K&N air filter really helped. I ran 4 passes, with, without, with and without the K&N filter. The filter gave me anothter 75-100 rpm and about .5-1mph. I was pretty surprised. That was the K&N vs. open Carb.
23rev4 REALLY works well with my package. Very little chine and the attitude of the boat is very good, all things considering.
Boat runs about 74gps on a cool day with no fuel, 72ish almost anyday. I'd like to try a shorty and see what happens. Anyone have any thoughts on this. Foul.....hard to say what helped in your case, what do you think about a shorty on mine?
I am going to try some motor parts int he next few weeks. I'll let ya know what happens.
Seeya, have fun and be safe.
BTW....Tanks sister works well on my boat....you know, cleaning the head.......things like that....

Personally I felt the money was better spent on more boat. The 36 I have now only runs about about 7-8 mile per hour faster than the 272, but I don't have to slow down for anything! So I am actually running on average must faster than before.
Just my opinion. Hope this helps in some way. Good luck

This is what I wanted someone to post. I have 29 Outlaw with a single 502mag and catch some flack from people saying that my 29 is underpowered (NO BODY ON THE INTERNET, JUST PEOPLE AT WORK GIVE ME A HARD TIME). Compared to my old 252 Islander with the 454, I no longer have to slow down for anything either, the extra boat is a huge difference than the power for me. I suspect I will be getting about the same speeds as the 252 but the ride in the 29 is no comparison. I find myself aiming for the waves instead of dodging them or slowing down for them. My average speed has increased ten fold, especially in rough water. Besides if I could count the times that I have had my throttle burried on my previous boats, it would total up to about 3 minutes. I am pretty conservative when it comes to running a boat WOT, I just don't think it is that great for a motor to run it WOT all of the time. I think that was an excellent point Mark!

Big E:
Could you share some performance numbers with us? speeds, exactly what motor, etc.
I would like to move up to a 29 at some point, but I'm not sure that I really need two motors since I rarely do much open water boating.

Allan,
That is what I like to hear!
Really that is not bad at all for as little as the flame arrestor costs.
I guess the point I was trying to make is that to me one to two MPH is not a big difference. Seems you have to do some really major modifications to really see big numbers and one modification leads to another, etc, etc.
Thanks

Here is blurry pic of my stern jack that gave me approximately 4 mph on a 272 Boss. Absolutely no porpoise or chine walking and she handled the same at 40 as she did at 80mph.

Actually Dock, I just sold the boat but it had a 30" Bravo I and about 100 hours before the Procharger and 120 since installation. It has performed flawlessly without one single hiccup but I was easy on her. I never held it WOT for more than say 30-40 seconds.
