Default new 30 outlaw info and other baja stuff

I just got back form the Detroit boat show and learned a few interesting things about baja, here goes

Mike from McMachen Marine was on the 30 ol w the 525's and he said it did hit nearly 90 mph (89.???mph) gps

He was also on a 496 ho boat that did 77-78 gps

The cabin of the 30 ol comes in two configuration. The first is similar to the 29 with the front bed and the side couches

The one at the boat show had a small shelf like area at the front of the bow and then two long benches down the side that convert to a nice large bed. It also had the galley, head and tv, a very nice set up. This was the 3rd 30 ol that I have seen but the first with this cabin configuration.

The most interesting thing I head which I am sure will spark people's interest is that the 30 is the first of the new line boats they are going to offer. Supposedly they are going to get rid of the 33 and 36 ol and replace them with a 35. Then they will only offer the ol in 30, 35, and 40 for the larger boats.

Has anyone else heard about this?
Hope this interests people.

i would also hate to see the 33 ol go away!!
i just purchased a 99' with 35 hrs. on it.

from what i gather the 33 is baja"s most popular outlaw model. i would have thought that it was the 29.

I was told at the Chicago show that the boat also does not have wooden stringers. He described it as being similar to the method Formula uses with a grid of glass and composites.

I'm not sure about the stringers but I would like to see them come out with a 35 modeled after the new 30. I have a 302 now and I would like a 33 or 342 but the 33 is too small in the cabin and the 342 is too heavy.

Where did you hear about two different cabin configurations?

I have only seen the very small v-berth ones in all the 30's I have seen and don't care for it.

I have a hard time believing that Baja would have to be set up on the assembly line for two different cabins. That would be a very high cost not to mention having to mold two separate liners, etc.

Did you get a picture of the 29-like cabins in the 30 OL that you've seen?

Saleen,

I am almost positive that the 30 ol that Fox Chapel marine has ... its the blue and orange one baja was running last year and it has two mesh bench seats when you walk in and then there is the large berth in the front like most other boats. Maybe I am confussing it with one of the 33 ol that I looked at... I have look at a lot of boats in the past few months. Anyway that was the first time I had seen the small berth one. I'll try to check around this weekend and let you know
