Your Next of Kin

Just thought I would say hello. I am currently looking into purchasing a 25 outlaw or 272. Im not sure as to which one for now, so I thought I would read and gather opinions from current owners. I am from Louisiana and will be educating myself this year. I have 1 year to go. Deadline.....03 of 2005. Until then I will just have to settle for my friends 29. Hope to get to know all you. Thanks

JimmyBaja 02-17-2004 12:59 PM

My personal preference for the boating I do? The 272 hands down. A friend has one with a 502. NICE BOAT!!!

272 or 25ol

Both are great boats. Can't go wrong with either. I had a 2001 272 and loved it did all i wanted it to do, mine had 496ho. Whichever boat you get I recommend either the 502mag or the 496ho.IMO Here is a pic of my old boat . BTW a guy from louisiana bought it.

mobilecal 02-17-2004 01:20 PM

how much of a difference is there between te 496 and the 502?

GatorDave 02-17-2004 01:20 PM

Just went through the same process and bought the 25 Outlaw. I like the more traditional look in the Outlaw series than the Performance series. My $.02! As mentioned earlier think about the type of boating you do and figure out which one fits that style better.

thosetwins 02-17-2004 01:24 PM

how much difference

Not alot, 496 ho 425hp / 502mag 415hp. My point to mobilcal is these are kinda big boats so get all the power you can or even hp500 gets pricey and not alot of those around. Cya

Mirage plus props converted to ACCLERATOR DESIGN.

Outlawcowgirl 02-17-2004 04:57 PM

I voted for the 25. I have a 24 Outlaw right now and I love the looks of the Outlaw. I think it just looks better and a 25 is a good size to get started out in.
My$.02.

Oh, and welcome aboard!!!:woohoo:

mobilecal 02-17-2004 08:21 PM

yea I looked at a 25 and a 275 today and now I am really confused. With the 25 @69k and the 275 @ 73K theres not that much difference in price but there is a hugh difference in look. And I like them both.

thosetwins 02-17-2004 08:24 PM

Yea they are nice but don't pay those nutty prices you should be able to get into either one of those boats with trailer for under 60k w/496ho. :)

mobilecal 02-17-2004 08:41 PM

Are you serious? I asked how much room there was(like he was going to tell me) but I was told there was a price increase and I couldnt find a new one close to 60. SEE THATS WHY I JOINED THIS FORUM. WHATS $49 COMPARED TO 10K.

Is that with or without taxes?

Without taxes, do your homework don't pay too much! Don't let them dealers screw ya. Especially with the rebates, make your best deal and then knock off the rebate. The dealers like to build those in the deal cause they get the check form baja. 60k tops with trailer SST or BOSS , etc :)

mobilecal 02-17-2004 09:02 PM

Thank you very much. I appreciate all of the info. It sure is nice to gave a little G2 in your back pocket.

pwam1 02-17-2004 09:41 PM

I personally prefer the 25.
If you don't have to have abrand new one, save some depretiation and go for a 2000-02 model.
Nice boats with good power for under 50K. some of the members here would be glad to help you.

CigDaze 02-18-2004 06:47 AM

At first glance, the most obvious differences are in cockpit space and windshield vs windscreen. The 272 has more room in the cockpit between the bolsters and the rear bench and has the windshield.

Below the surface, the hulls are essentially the same length with the same deadrise, however the 25 outlaw has a slight weight advantage and benefits from a better placed CG. The 25 will offer a slightly better ride.

Chris288 02-18-2004 09:41 AM

my personal preference wold be a 275 w/ a wind screen,,

mobilecal 02-18-2004 07:24 PM

I did notice more space in the space in the cockpit but in return I also notice less space on the sun pad, or motor cover. I guess what Im saying is if Im driving I guess it really wouldnt matter.:) Anyway with it being my first offeshore boat I thought both would be a great boat to start off with. But who knows, I may change my mind 10 times by the time I buy one.

thosetwins 02-20-2004 11:56 AM

Go with the 275 and a windscreen, more cokpit room better sunpad new styling, more functional boat overall. The 25 ol is a good boat but due for a makeover especially in the dashboard area.:)

272/275...........

JaayTeee 02-20-2004 06:29 PM

I've driven a few of both.

My personal thoughts:
the 25 seems to be more nimble,
a little more fun to drive.

my .02

mobilecal 02-20-2004 11:21 PM

millerlite,

Where did you find the windscreen. Thats part of the reason I dont like the 275 is because of the windsheid. Where did you find that or did you order the boat that way?

thosetwins 02-20-2004 11:40 PM

The 272 used to be able to be had with the white windscreen. Now the 275 can be had with a windscreen but it is clear and does not go all the way around like the white one did. But I think it looks really good. The windshield on the 275 / 272 looks like a family boat and is not very sllek looking. On mine (other 272 pictured) if i could not have gotten the windscreen i would have went with the 25ol. :)

mobilecal 02-21-2004 12:32 AM

do you have a close up pic? Did you order it from the factory or aftermarket

thosetwins 02-21-2004 08:58 AM

No its factory,i will have to look to see if i have a close up.

mobilecal 02-22-2004 11:35 AM

does anyelse maybe have a pic of the windscreen for the 275?

jmeng 02-26-2004 09:12 AM

Mobilecal,

What dealer where you talking to? I'm guessing New Roads. Sammy usually has decent prices but I wouldn't buy anything that he already has in stock. I wouldn't rule out a clean low hour used boat either. Tons of 25's on the market. Good luck on your search.Who's your friend with a 29?

mobilecal 02-27-2004 06:33 PM

Well I got a neighbor of mine Broussard, and another friend of mine, Pierce. But yea Sammy was the one that gave be the 73-4k price for the 275. Ive already have a pm from a dealer in Tx that said to come visit him and I could probably get one with trailer for under 60, not counting taxes. Thats a 14k difference.

thosetwins 02-28-2004 07:54 AM

Taxes

I just bought my new boat in texas and you wont pay the taxes in texas. Just a inventory fee and should only be $202.00 but you will have to pay louisiana taxes. Texas taxes are 6.5% verry steep! Oklahoma taxes were 3% still sux :)

mobilecal 02-28-2004 06:47 PM

yea but when I register it in Louisiana for insurance I would have to pay Louisianas state tax.

thosetwins 02-28-2004 09:20 PM

well yea?

I did say that would be the case on last post. No way around it thats a given.

jmeng 02-29-2004 07:59 PM

That's the great thing about buying a used boat. Buy from an individual and pay no taxes.

thosetwins 03-08-2004 08:01 PM

NOT in Oklahoma you have to pay...SUX!

pwam1 03-10-2004 09:17 PM

In Indy it doesn't matter who you buy it from. To register the boat in IN you have to pay sales tax. They require a copy of a bill of sale so they know how much to charge.

mobilecal 03-12-2004 01:23 PM

Yea, I think that is the way it is here also. Ive never bought from out of state, But either way sales tax or no sales tax, a better deal is a better deal.

thosetwins 03-12-2004 04:42 PM

In Louisiana on a USED boat you only pay tax on the TRAILER!! When the guy there who bought my 2001 272 the bank called me and asked what the trailer coat i told them $3000 and they said they needed to know because that is all you pay taxes on in LA. NOT THE BOAT!! ONLY the trailer!! So in LA. you got it good when you buy USED!!!

So i guess you would have to pay for the boat and trailer seperate?

thosetwins 03-17-2004 09:48 PM

No buy them together does not matter if the boat is 75k and the trailer 1k if it is used you only pay tax on the trailer LA is a good place to live when getting a used boat..:)

mobilecal 03-18-2004 10:50 AM

Thanks alot. This sure does help. Are you still able to get a loan IE. 10-15 years or are there restrictions due to it being a used boat?
