Default New To The Baja Family

First of all, just like to say hello to everyone. I've been visiting this forum for the past couple of weeks and i have gathered some great info.
I've decided to trade in my 210 Sea Ray Bowrider and up grade to the Baja 242 Islander but before i make deal with the salesman wanted to know if you guys had any advise on engine options 496HO or 496 nonHO.
What's a fair price on this boat located in Houston, Tx?
any info would be appreciated

Get as much engine as you can afford. They are both great engines. The HO motor should get the boat somewhere around 70.

I have a better idea, buy my 97 24 Outlaw SST w/new 525merc! 80+ mph Killer condition, new trailer. Turn key boat. 40k! You're in like Flynn.

I agree with Tank. Buy his boat. There is a Large difference between a 242 and an Outlaw. If you have a family I believe the Outlaw would be a safer bet. The OL has a much larger freeboard. Also, depending on where you boat, theres a good chance that with the OL you will never have to say, "damn it's to rough today" . In addition, Tank also mentioned the new 525, which is an absolutely unbelievable factory "no worries" motor. Plus..Replacement value on tanks boat new would be in the high 70's if not lower 80's. Just my 2c. Bill
P.S. Welcome to the Fam.
P.P.S. Remember....Speed changes you, once you get a taste you want more, and more, and more..........

N-T-S,

Thanks for the killer plug! I think I should just have you sell it for me and give you a commision!

However, it is actually a Merc 525SC w/the "baby" Wiend blower, Super Chiller, MSD ignition, Gil dry exhaust, WPM twin ram hydro steering, sea strainer, twin batteries w/isolator switch, 600 watt stereo (10 speakers including 2 12" subs, MB Quart mids/highs), full and cockpit covers.

Just put 20k into the boat in mid 2003 w/the motor, drive and new trailer (custom painted candy purple to match the plumb splash SST graphics).

Again 80+ mph and the merc 525sc is a turn key reliable motor. Anyone w/ one will attest to that. 75 hrs on motor/drive.

And I would have to agree w/N-T-S, I have never been on a lake and thought my boat is too small. That 24 degree hull cuts through the rough stuff like butta baby!

It's an awesome boat, but I'm buying a Cig. The outlaw has to go. I'll even pull it out to Texas for you if ya buy it! (always wanted to check out the lakes out there).

Let me know if any of you know anyone that's interested. 40k.

Welcome! I would get the HO if you can. You can never have too much power.

1st - I'd take a look at Tanks boat....this might be more of what your looking for.

2nd - if Tanks is not......get the islander with as much power as you can. I'd rather pay a little extra and get what you want.
