question, do we get looked down on since we own baja's???

Was reading that other thread from Back 4 more, and the comments that were listed there.
just curious, do you guys get crap from people cause you own a baja? Do you think people are snotty cause we own production boats instead of kabillion dollar custom rides? (granted there are always the few in the crowd that you can never help)
I dont have much experience in this area, cause I used to own a bayliner and a baja is one mother of a step up (19 foot capri br with 125 OB to 30 ft twin 454 baja)
No I would never look down on a bayliner owner cause I used to be there (and man did I want an offshore ride badly then)

Just curious, do the fountain and hustler ect owners act snotty or look down on any of you guys because you own a baja? if so, what was your reaction or response?

just curious cause I dont know what to expect this summer

traviss 01-14-2002 04:43 PM

I just trim it up and go by them :D that takes those cocky ass smirks off there face :D :D

Boating Fool 01-14-2002 05:19 PM

You guys need to come hang out on KY Lake. Talk about Baja country!! I have a photo of all the people we party with at the local hot spot. Out of about 30 boats, probably 20 are baja from different years and models. The outlaw brand is really popular. Kinda funny though we have ours up for sale. My dad bought a Magic Cat instead. I wish I had the money to buy it from him.

thisistank 01-14-2002 05:42 PM

Traviss, that was funny!!! I'll know that feeling this spring when I get the motor done. :D

Jay, You will get people talking **** about almost every boat! I always say people talk **** about Baja's because they've never ridden in one! ;) Friends of mine that have Scarabs, Cigarettes, Formulas, skaters, etc. etc. have joked about me owning a Baja but I think it's all in fun and when it comes down to it, we are all boaters and thats all that matters!

ALOT of people on OSO talk crap about baja but then again they talk crap about EVERYTHING! :D Again, most havent ridden in one. I will put my boat up against ANY boat in the same class in rough water any day! The funny thing is, when we are running offshore with scarabs, nordics, cigarettes and formula's I'm always out front!! :D :D Could just be that I'm a fricken nut and never get off the sticks though! :D

By the way, I've been running my boat in the ocean in big water for over 4 years and I have had no stress cracks or problems with it what so ever.

32fever 01-14-2002 05:55 PM

Jay13,
Just think, you owned a Bayliner, now a Baja, and you wouldn't talk about the Bayliners that way.

The Hustler, Cigarette, Outerlimits owners probably started somewhere too.

If they do, it's one of two things. 1. They are just joking in fun, or 2. They aren't the kind of peeps you probably want to hang around anyway.

Beak Boater 01-14-2002 07:45 PM

Everyone has their own idea about what is right for them. I've owned Checkmates, Eliminators, Fountain's. I really don't think the boat makes the people. Our most frequent boating friends are in a Baja. Great boats, good people to party with, always a good time. My engine builder is currently building a 1000 H.P. blower motor to put in his 272 Baja, do you think that will draw some looks when he go by??

Allan4 01-14-2002 07:57 PM

JAy....F*** 'em. My buddies give me crap sometimes, but tehy are ususlly joking...I think. I'm with tank. I'm going to push 600hp in my 24 OUtlaw this season. I'd run any vee that size in snotty water and see what happens. I'm not claiming to be the fastest or neatest or most expensive boat on the water by any means, but when it comes down to people bashing my ride, I really don't give a ****...for two reasons. 1. I get 30 times more compliments than negatives, 2. I can usually beat the piss outta the guy giving me crap, friends excluded of course :D :D :D

I'm in N Ohio tonight, going to Bucyrus tomorrow on my way home to check out the Baja plant. Next boat....29 Outlaw, in a few years ofcourse ;)

Kanookstr 01-14-2002 08:35 PM

Don't take it to heart Jay, There's so many boats out there, and there all great when they run, and they all suck when there broken. :D . I use to be a Bayliner owner my self. So I to worked my way up. I acctually loved My bayliner. Had a 1985 190 open bow, with a 350 in it. She did 57 MPH. surprised alot of people. Sold it back in 1988, and I still see her running today. ;)
Lets not forget, Baja, searay, Maxum, princecraft, Bayliner, ect... Are all made by the same company. We just need to remember that, before we start criticizing somebody elses boat, Be sure you don't own one built by the same company.
Happy boating everyone
;) ;)

bayou outlaw 01-14-2002 09:01 PM

I have had nothing but compliments about my 1994 24 outlaw. It is holding up very well compared to more expensive boats of around the same year model. If anyone is bashing it they are doing it behind my back, which doesn't bother me a bit. It doesn't matter what you ride in, as long as it gets you there and back. Andy T.

01-14-2002 10:40 PM

The philosophy around where we boat is..."You are one step ahead of everyone else who does not even own a boat" Who wants to schlep a cooler, chairs and a blanket across a beach with hundreds of people, Our 25 Outlaw gets nothing but "thumbs up" from almost everyone at the local watering hole. Dont sweat it, buy what you want and can afford.

Red Stripe 01-15-2002 02:45 AM

I actually know people have "looked down on me" because I was driving a little Baja. I have seen it. But it never lasts long, because like Traviss said, trim up and I'm gone :D I have pissed off quite a few people driving expensive boats (5 to 7 times more expensive than mine) buy dusting them. They dont look down on my boat anymore. :D

MERC575 01-15-2002 06:02 AM

last year i used to get downed for my 272 buy the guys where i boat but thats okay. we'll see who talks crap this summer when i bust out my new ride(32 caliber)with 1400hp i cant wait to leave them behide me. :D :D boat should be out of paint shop next week and if the weather is still this warm i'm going to put her in and find out just how this things going to run.

Jayl13 01-15-2002 08:19 AM

well dont get me wrong
I LOVE MY BOAT and I am proud to own it and have it sitting next to my house too.
I have had no one say anything negative but also my boat is broken  so until that is fixed im going to be on the pissy side anyway
Well this was just a curious thing cause I know since I have a 1998 Ram Air Trans am, i get talked down by all the moron punk kids in their honda civics and dodge neon's
(yeah keep talkin buddy)
Obviously I ignore them as much as I want to slug them in the mouth with a 2x4 wall stud!!

I figured boating might be the same on a larger scale, I did not spend a kabillion dollars and take out a third mortgage and sell a child in to slavery to get a outerlimits or whatever, but so far I have had only one outing in the baja so I have no experience mixing with others yet (subsequently, that is when she broke)

Well my brothers, Im proud to own a baja, Im going to get that guy on the ebay site to sell me the baja performance logo's and stick them on my pickup truck so everyone knows I own a baja and if someone does not like it -- they can kiss my ass cause as far as im concerned, I have just about everything I have ever wanted in life and im downright happy!!!!!!!!!

Jason

diligaf 01-15-2002 08:46 AM

Those 40ft outerlimits and skaters and pantera's and black thunder's and Cigs are FEW AND FAR BETWEEN where I am from. My Baja gets more WOW's wherever I go. When I volunteered as a patrol boat and took it down to the NYC boat race, one of the guys from KRYPTONITE racing was checking it out and asking me all kinds of questions. Overall, you get a lot of boat for the money with a Baja..

Maybe when you get rid of that PINK stripe down the side people will stop laughing ....  ;) ;)

Just kidding, have fun and enjoy it... not everyone can afford a 300,000 dollar go-fast.

Jayl13 01-15-2002 08:49 AM

Hey Chris,
Im TRYING to get rid of the HOOKER BARBIE pink stripe
Problem is YOU KNOW WHO sort of Likes it
Im going to have to come home from work early one day in spring, and have all my stuff ready to go and have the boat primed white by the time she gets home, OOPS too bad :D

How things going?
Jason

thunderdan 01-15-2002 09:13 AM

Jason,
Sorry, guys, hope you do not mind a non baja guy jumping in on your thread. I do not own a baja but I can tell you there may be some joking around on this board about boat makes and models but true offshore boaters do not care what kind of boat you have, just that you enjoy it. If you have not done so yet, join the NJPPC. We are a bunch of guys that go out boating together, have a great time no matter what type of boat we/you/they have. I have a simple philosophy about stuff like this, if you have nothing nice to say, shut the fu-- up. I look forward to running together this summer. Do not worry, when people ask who makes my boat, I say Active Thunder, there response is who, never heard of them. :D :D :D

diligaf 01-15-2002 11:41 AM

Just whip out the buffing wheel and OOOOOPS I dont know what happend to the pink stripe.. It was there when I started...   :p :p :p :p

Things are going good, how about you...

badbilly 01-15-2002 11:44 AM

FOUNTAINS ARE VERY FAST, AND CIGARETTES HANDLE FANTASTIC, BUT HAVE YOU EVER SPENT A WEEK ON ONE WITH YOUR FAMILY AND STILL RUN 70 MPH?

Croozin2 01-15-2002 11:46 AM

Well put, Thunderdan. I own a Formula, but one of my good boating friends is Bayou Outlaw that posted above (24' Baja). We also have another buddy with a Velocity. It doesn't matter to any of us which brand we have - that's a personal choice. The idea is to get on the water and have some fun (read: spend a bunch of pesos!). We have all had trouble with our rigs. At the Emerald Coast poker run in Destin last summer, the marina there jammed both of my Bravos in forward. What did we do? Loaded up in Bayou Outlaw's rig and made a day of it ( I did catch some flack about my Formula beach towels, though :p). As was stated earlier, anyone that gives you any crap about your choice in boats isn't worth hanging around with anyway. Run whatcha brung!

Steve A.K.A RAMPAGE 01-16-2002 02:52 PM

Last year I ran up to watch the Smoke On The Water poker run out of Grand Haven Mi.
On the return leg, most of the boats were passing fairly close, and I would either wave or give them a thumbs up as they passed. Most of the owners in Skaters,Black Thunders,Cigs, and other high $$$boats wouldn't even attempt to acknowledge back. However all baja boaters did return the wave.
And the only reason I can assume why,is that I was sitting in a Baja.So are we snubbed???,most definitely!!!
Steve

BAJA WILL 01-16-2002 04:06 PM

Don't worry about it. I feel like everyone makes fun of Fountain all the time. Reggie this Gold Chains......, Oh yea the beeeeek, your 27 is actually a 20' ski boat. Pay them no attention.

WILL :D

Your 36 Outlaw is nothing to snub either, that is one sweet boat. Hey, I'll still wave at you Steve, even when I get that new Skater. :) I'll be in my late 90's, but hey, I will still wave. If not, my nurse can lift my arm for me. :D :D

Steve, I've been in 38 scarabs and 38 Cigarettes waiving at other boaters as they go by and have them just look and keep going. Some people (especially in boating where lets just face it, theres not exactly people who are poor boating in Offshore boats) let all the money go to their heads and just think they are the ****. I just flip them off when they don't waive back! :D I like seeing their faces when they get all insulted. F*ck em!

Hey Mark,
When you get that new Skater, I want a ride!!!!When you're 90,that will make me about 110+.Guess I'll just have to put the devil on hold for a while :D :D :D Before I croak ,I gotta have a ride in one of those sweet things....

Playn 01-17-2002 08:15 AM

The only boat I have ever owned is a 1990 Baja250es. I'm sure there are people who look down on it but quite frankly I've never noticed because I don't really give a s**t what they may think anyway. It's been a very nice boat for us, very clean, completely stock, and runs just about 60 (which is plenty fast enough for the wife and kids). It may go up for sale this year so we can get a slightly smaller one that we can use on more local lakes but who knows. Bottom Line; If you like it....that's all that matters :)

Flyinbrian 01-17-2002 12:25 PM

I think most of the morons talking sh*t about Baja's and other manufacturers are found on message boards like this one. Don't get me wrong, this board is awesome, but it has thousands of members. So with thousands of members, you're bound to have the guy sitting in front of the PC thinking of ways to impress some, and piss off others.
Just how many of those sh*t-talking idiots actually have a boat? And how many of the goons that own a boat, really know how to drive their boat?

Screw-em

Jayl13 01-17-2002 12:34 PM

Well it seems that only a few replied with actual experiences of being treated snotty to but that was not defined if it was directly related to them because they were in a baja. Guess it is hard to tell out on the water since you dont normally get THAT close to other people.
Well Im proud to own my boat and will be even more proud the day I can exceed 10 mph on it LMAO
it is going to be a fun ride and I cant wait
If someone wants to look down their nose at me, so be it, I still am on top of the world and glad to own the boat I have and when I decide to move up, more power to me
Until then, I love my baja and im going to order baja decals off ebay from that dude and put them on my truck
Jason

CigDaze 01-17-2002 01:15 PM

That's exactly the right attitude, Jay!
And I also like the way Tank and Steve/Rampage think. It's actually fun and gratifying sometimes! :D

Anyway, sure I've been snubbed before: You know...the non-wave, some million-dollar dumb ***** sitting on her hubby's boat polishing her toe nails while little foo-foo is licking her to satisfaction and she glances over with that evil look or when some guido-looking dude pulls up and beaches on the island next to me and doesn't even bother to accept my helping hand then walks away, etc, etc. We've all been there.

Although, I've never been able to discern whether it was due to my choice in boat or not, I don't know. Some people are just like that. It happens everywhere...it could be the yuppy dick who pulls up next to you with his Jag or Porsche, or some pompous ******* with the cigarette or some hillbilly with a bigger truck than yours. Whatever  More power to the ones like us friendly types who don't think that way!

I'm proud of my boat, I always have been and will never regret my choice. I've worked extremely hard to get where I am, as all of us have I'm sure and I'm proud of it. I didn't buy or decide on my boat for the name, how much it costs or how much recognition I will get with it(except I do like the female go-fast groupie-***** recognition... :D ;) )

Hell, I didn't even know I ever would be snubbed or looked down upon because I own a Baja until I learned about and joined OSO. There's so many people on here it's amazing. It's great actually. Everyone has an opinion, a taste for certain things and different experiences. That's the beauty of it. Lots of times it's mostly joking around or stereotyping. Some in good taste and fun sometimes not....Oh well. Live and let live, Live every day to enjoy on the water.

When it was time to buy a boat for myself, I spent endless hours sorting, sifting and researching any and all material I could get my hands on. I based my decision on many factors: locality, Styling played a Huge role, engineering, ride quality, ammenities, price and availability. I'm not an impulsive, un-informed or a whimsical kind of buyer either. I took my time looking at everything that I could find, construction methods and of course used my background as a base to examine construction and design. Believe me, Baja's leave very little to be desired as far as design and structure. I may not have all the bells and whistles that other guys have, but that's life. There's always someone trying do out-do the other simply because they can..........

It comes down to a matter of opinion almost always or just plain heresay and rumors. Trust me, most people who have ridden in our boats will tell you the same, they know better and are the more aware. You hear about tradgedy and boat break-up or failure often enough on this board due to it's huge membership and experiences that you should know that it is possible and occurrs with any and all makes or models.

Be proud guys! Bring whatcha brung! And hang with the best!!!

As far as I'm concerned I don't think there's any one single bad boat, boat-owner or boater on this board.

 :)

You betcha balls I'm proud to own a Baja. You can't dismiss those beautiful lines in our boats brother. Jay, speaking of a Baja sticker my wife bought me one from their website for a Christmas gift. It's a huge sticker which I have put on the back of our SUV. Proud to be a Baja owner.

Have any of you guys thought of putting some custom graphics on your boats? I'm thinking of replacing the "Outlaw" sticker on the wind fairing with something cool. Do you have any recommendations? What about a Team Baja racing sticker?

Jayl13 01-17-2002 02:30 PM

Im actually going to attempt the
TEAM BAJA paint scheme from bow to stern
since I can paint and getting some help from Excaliburhawk, I think this task is going to be a total ***** but well worth it
Scheme can be seen at www.marinegraphics.com
Click on Artists,
Then where it says select category,
Click Kangaroo Graphics
Look at the 6th scheme, or the first Team Baja scheme

That is what Im going to do to mine!!!!
I CANT WAIT
WOOHOOO
Jason

Advantage 01-17-2002 02:35 PM

Jay, that looks cool! That Team Baja logo would look cool on a fairing! I can't wait to see your finished product.

seanclong 01-17-2002 03:27 PM

I never realized that some people look down on Bajas until I joined OSO. It's really kinda' funny. Before that all I got was compliments and oohhs and aaahhhs on the water. As a matter of fact, a water cop pulled me over just so he could check out the boat. When he was done he complimented me on my choice of boats and I know he sees a lot of 'em!!! :D

We love our boat. It's relatively fast and very good looking. What else do ya need?

Sean :)

thisistank 01-17-2002 05:19 PM

Steve/Rampage

Related? Maybe! :D There's only so many cool mo-fo's in the world like us brother! :D

Jay,

Those graphics are the sh*t!!! I like all three of the Baja designs. Of course the boat they are on isn't bad either! If you get some type of Team Baja logo to fit across the fairing let me know and I'll buy one from you in purple. Send off some photo's of your project as it comes along.

Baja Daze,

I couldn't agree with you more. Theres just those d*ck head types in the world that think they have better stuff than someone else and sh*t on others because of it! I have a 11" lifted show suburban on 42's and I wave all the time at others in other lifted trucks, weither its a chevy with a 6 inch lift or a ford with an 8" lift, doesn't matter we are all into lifted trucks. And after I built my Harley, I made it a point to waive at ALL motorcyclist that past me no matter what they rode. And let me tell you the suprises I got from others on rice rockets that I waved at them and was the first to do it. We are all riders thats all that matters. I went on the "running of the bulls" (not in spain) here in california with all lamborghinis. some people were dicks and wouldnt even say whats up to others driving other lamborghinis! Some people just need a window implanted in their stomach so they can see what the f*ck they are doing when their heads are shoved so far up their asses!! We are all into offshore style boats or boating in general (I even waive at sail boaters!) and thats all that matters. I'll step off my soap box now, sorry. :D

obnoxus 01-17-2002 05:34 PM

Don't worry Jay,,, there all just pissed because they spent many times more money, and didn't get much more boat !!!!

Biggus 01-17-2002 10:02 PM

We live in Maine and there aren`t many performance boats up here.. When I bought the 280 Sport in 1990 it was one of the biggest and fastest boats in a 60 mile lake :D And for the two or three times a reallly fast boat comes up our way, my Baja kick butt year after year!

The people where live have never even seen a Cigarette with thier own eyes!

My Baja is just like having a new Outerlimits where I live..
People up here don't know the difference.

Kurt.

MIdnightRider 01-22-2002 02:23 PM

I never post but I have to say this, no matter what you have, there are better, faster, and nicer looking boats just around the corner. People are people, nice ones wave, *******s don't. I had, I'm selling it now, a 250 for 5 years. It was the coolest, best boat for the money then, and who ever buys will have the same fun I did. We partied on it, had girls on it, it was worth every penny. I just bought a 42' fountain, was on a 42 F for smoke on the water last year, and in that crowd, we were, and will be the ****tiest boat there. But we will give anybody a run for the money when its time to party, we might get back a little later then those Skaters, It just means we'll be a little thirstier. Its all about fun, no matter what it takes to be on the water, even if its on a pontoon, or in a bayliner. LOL
