Prop for 212 Islander

Actually went skiing today in Northern CA in our new 212. The hole shot was not that great and I was wondering about a 4 Blade prop. We currently have a 3 blade 21 Mirage plus and the top end is around 68 with 1/2 fuel and 3 aboard. Any idea of props to try.

I run a 212 islander and I would try a bravo 1 19pitch it should yank you out pretty good I would think. Just my .02cents

Wildchild212's suggestion would probably be the ideal choice for skiing purposes. The holeshot would be great...However, needless to say top speed will suffer a little.

Mark,
So the hole shot was alittle slow? Where you trying to salom ski? I would probably try the 4 blade in order not to sacrifice the top end. A 19 pitch may run the RPMs too much, I don't know just a thought.

Is this the prop you run Wildchild? How do you like the Islander? I have thought about getting one.

Eric
I currently run a 23 pitch mirage plus, this prop runs me at 4750 at 65.3 on a GPS. I love the boat but We have owned it since new in 97 and it is for sale right now. The wife and I have the itch again. Imagine that huh.

Mark
if you are spinning a 21 three blade the 19 four blade should be fine for rpm. Besides do you ski at 60 plus alot not unless you are in the catalina race. who knows give it a try

WC-
Thanks for the information. I will be looking at the Islander this spring. What are you running in yours? The 350?

Wildchild212 02-05-2002 07:36 PM

I have the 454L L stands for little. IT is the 300 hp

toonatime 02-05-2002 09:55 PM

I think 22 is smallest Bravo 1 4 blade. Ask in prop section if anyone makes a 19 4 blade..

Wildchild212 02-05-2002 10:09 PM

Good point toonatime! It maight be hard to find if they dont make it. Does the Rev 4 go smaller do you know? what kind of rpms are you running anyway Mark?

liquid asset 02-06-2002 09:11 AM

The 300 h.p. 454 max rpm is 4600 if I remember right, I used to have a hammer with a 454 and a bravo 22'', it was on the rev limiter and real good hole shot but I lost 3-4 mph from 23 mirage ;)

toonatime 02-06-2002 09:27 PM

Revolution 4 is 19-23 pitch.. Might work if you can find one to try..4 blade give excellent hole shot,,tremendous midrange power, but usually are a bit slower,,,however with props you never know until try...

I talked to a local prop shop in Oakland Ca. There recommendation was a 22 4 blade as it is reving to 5200 rpm. I have a brand new 24 pitch 4 blade yamaha prop off my old boat, which could be pitched down. The yamaha prop is a smaller diameter at 13 3/4. His other thought was a 21 Bravo 1 4 blade. Any one have one of those for sale.

Thanks for all the info on props. This board once again proves its worth. The prop shops have all recommened a Mercury rev 4 19 pitch, so I,ll try it out in a few days after UPS gets here.I brought one from Lightning Bay Marine.

At that bay marine place you just spoke of how much for the rev-4. I currently have a 3-blade 23-marige, but need advise on a 4-blade. Im running 74mph at 5400rpm w/rebuilt 454. what pitch for the 4-blade and will i gain any speed.

mhunter 02-12-2002 09:37 PM

I paid $465 for the Rev 4 blade. Call Mike Flannigan at Lightning Bay Marine
727 822-4470. Give him all your specs and he will help with the right pitch.
Good luck . Mark

I ran the rev 4 19 pitch today and it was great out of the hole. The revs dropped off to 5000 and the top speed dropped off to 66 from 68. The 21pitch mirage plus that came with the boat has plugged hole at the base. does taking the plugs out help ventilate the prop and make for a better hole shot?

I'm spinning a bravo 26 and picked up 2 mph over my 23'' mirage, on a 502 24 outlaw, my prop is in the mail to bronson hill to be labbed, I'll post the results after I get it back:cool:
