Went to look at an I/O Banana today.
Hull #47. Started right up. It has been painted, but looks solid. Engine seems to be well taken care off. Owner is looking for $17,000. Here are some pics... |

Bravo 1 outdrive.
454 Mag engine. 66mph with a 25p prop. Think he said 4500rpm, (not sure, but it was low), |

I had forgotten what the original bolsters looked like.
They seemed so much smaller and taller. I didn't like the steering wheel position with the tall bolsters. |
Re: Hull #47 found
We never did black engine rooms...always white or yellow.
Race boats always went out as bare glass finish to keep the weight down so #14 could have been painted any color after it was rigged. |
Re: Hull #47 found
tb...
so...banana or not? redone? splash? think it's worth it....any other ideas? what year was #47? c |
Re: Hull #47 found
#14 has black paint (or glass) in the bilge, engine room area apparently under the stringer glass. but it was an original OB boat.
and it has been converted to BBC and back to OB and has a second transom glassed on, so this probably isn't a good one for comparison. |
Hull #47 is a 1988.
It was a genuine Banana Boat. Trailer was new this year. I think it is a nice boat. Seller said that if he doesn't get 17,000 he is gonna keep it. I told him about OSO. Hopefully he will join. |
Re: Hull #47 found
Thats a nice looking boat. Yeah having the whell down there with those bolsters doesn't leave much room to get in and out of the seat. We tend to just jump over the top of ours to get in. But on the other hand you feel like you are really "in" control of the boat. Guess I'm lucky I'm a skinny guy.

Re: Hull #47 found
oh my bilge is black as well. and so was the other one that I found up in NH that was unrigged. I'll guess that the second gen's were done that way.
|
Re: Hull #47 found
#14 is believed to be #14 and a first gen.
My Donzi sale fell through today. THe guy was buying it for his 17 yo kid and couldn't get him on the insurance policy as a operator without extreme rate increase. Which begs my next thread topic... |

Your Banana was the only one I have ever seen with a black motor well. It's not a second gen thing, it is a too lazy to clean the oil thing, so I will paint it black thing... |

My bildge is blue!

Re: Hull #47 found
Hey ! My bilge isn't oily! It's just rotten. Maybe if it was oily it would have kept the water from rotting it. :D
Maybe it was just a lets see what color we have to much of sitting around and lets use it thing? It would go along with the hey we have a spare nut and bolt here so lets throw it in the glass in the bilge to give it extra strength thing mine has!!! :drink: |

But the deck is from a 27 Mag sport. Cockpit is 1ft back and its now with a air step hull. I'll rigg the boat this winter with a Chevy 572"/620hp on Bravo XR. The hull gel # is exactly Harley Davidson race orange cuz I want the true style of 70th. Iam building the boat for my private use. Also have a -89 312 Stinger with twin 502MPI. |
Re: Hull #47 found
Nice boat!
let me know if you need the 572 or 598 BBC. I can check on international shipping. Evan |
Fruitta, I take it back, you are correct about the black bildge thing.
When I said yours was the only one I had seen that way, I was thinking about the motor well. I think the later Banana's all had black bildges. For some reason mine was blue. Under the blue paint it is just clear fiberglass, so I guess my Banana is the odd ball... :drink: |
