Charlie will know better, but a stock 454 Mag (365hp) will make it go 65-70mph.
A stock 300hp V8 OMC will make it go 65mph. Put it on a hydraulic jackplate (17inches) and it will go 70-72mph. MrV8Outboard will know better here.
A stock 250 hp Yamaha hanging on the transom made my white Banana go 65mph! A hydraulic Jack plate (17inches) should put you at 70mph with this set up.
I think Charlie Jr's boat goes 60mph with a 225hp hanging on a 12 foot bracket and bottom paint...
If you running an outboard you will want either a 24 or 26p chopper prop.
Hope I helped.

The boat being done now is mine. I hated having that bathtub of an OB well on the back. And since I planed on hanging my OB off of a bracket it just made sense.
p.s. I can't wait to see the pics.

I'm running one slightly reworked '89 e-rude 225. Probably around 250hp. I was probably around 55mph with it on the transom in stock configuration with an aluminum 15X17 prop. Should be better now with the mods, bracket, tabs, and cleaned up hull. I will need to play with some stainless props to know the real numbers though.

You guys have it all wrong. What you need to do is keep the motor well, just lengthen the transom so it is taller. Run the engine cables and hydraulic steering lines around the outside of the gunnel and now you have a 7.5' wide beer cooler!
Or better yet, run a hose from the heated water tell tale coming out the back of your outboard into new well and "wella" you have a outboard powered Banana Hot Tub!

Here is your boat with me driving it in a Plymouth Ma race. When the dates didn't conflict with the Open class races, I was asked by some owners to drive their boats in Production class races...this was one of those times.
The white boat to the left, Obsession, is another banana 24 outboard and the yellow one further out is another banana 24 outboard. They were great little racers as they could take big water with the 8 foot beam vs the 7 foot beam of the other 24 boats on the market.

Well how many of you Banana Heads have a boat Charlie actually Drove in a Race. Hey Charlie does this Boat qualify for the HORBA. The boat looks just like it does here in the pic. What year was this pic?
thanks Josh

It looks like late 70's sometime. I have on the new Lifeline jacket that matched the 38 foot Top Banana livery, while the other guys have on the old style Gentex jackets.
