They are built for racing and MrV8outboard is running a twin version with (2) V8 Johnsons (close to 400hp each).
If I remember right they are 17" set back or so.
They make it with a swim platform and you get a bracket and a jack plate combo.

I'll keep it in mind, I'm not sure if the difference in price would be worth the added top speed? I think with the 12" manual I'll have nearly the same top end, give or take 2 mph? With the manual I plate I should be able to reach that sweet spot but I'm sure I'll miss the adjustable travel of a hydr. unit.
Guys, I'm just wondering if it would be best to use at least 6 inches of set back as the plates would let me adjust the motor high as opposed to bolting them on the transom? I know there's a lot of varibles with the set up and I've read some info on set backs on Super Boats and others which seem to say 12' is about the best but it comes with a fair loss of stability. I favor mounting on the transom, for looks, but that little voice in the back of my head keeps saying 6'=2-3 mph and 12" = about 4-5 mph.
I guess what I'm trying to ask is are the plates that much of a help when dealing with finding the right motor height?

Just to follow up on an old thread, what kind of speed would you see out of a Banana with a single 300 hp Merc outboard on it? I would assume you'd need a 25" shaft and some amount of setback.

You can run either a 20 or 25" shaft.
Setback is up to you.
I ran a 20" shaft with 325 - 350 hp and 17" of setback.

The 24' for sale for $1500 on Cape Cod? That's a members old boat. I believe the engines work fine. Boat needs work, but for the money you will get more of a return if your willing to clean it up.Originally Posted by Sick Stinger

I'll see if I have a pic of the boat.
Mike,
Just sent the four pics I had on that one. I believe it's the old second choice race boat.
Charlie would know better.
For $1500 I would go buy it if I didn't own one already.
