Vector 46' Aluminum Offshore Vee
Back in 1994 I had designed a 46' aluminum Vee for the company that I was working for in Canada. Unfortunately the boat was sold before we were able to complete the project. Last that I had heard the Boathouse in NY had purchased the hull in 2000. Just wondering if anyone in the boating community has seen this boat around. It is 46' stepped bottom double skined foam core aluminum hull.
I have always wondered what had happened to the boat and if it was ever completed and put on the water. Below are a couple of pics. http://nstinc.net/downloads/vectordk.JPG http://nstinc.net/downloads/Vector45.JPG http://nstinc.net/downloads/vector2.gif http://nstinc.net/downloads/Vec45-6.JPG http://nstinc.net/downloads/Vec45-5.JPG |
I would like to see that as well. It looks really sweet just sittin in the shop.

It was a pretty rad design, 6'4" head room in the main cabin and head. 660 gals of fuel we designed it to be used as a island hopper from south Florida to the Bahamas and originally was going to be powered with triple 540ci turbo motors and #6's.
We spent a lot of time developing the running surface and making sure the boat would be unsinkable with it's injected foam core. It was destined to be a big water rig. Bubba |
Why was it sold before completion? It looks to me like someone put alot of development time as well as a ton of labor into that hull. I don't understand why someone would sell it before it was done.

The problem was too many projects at once. We were building up a marina, boat sales and service facility, had 50 employees, building a 37 Talon for poker runs and were running a pair of fountians all at the same time. The owner simply lost intrest in the project and has since gotten out of the marine business. That was allmost ten years ago. We had actually done destructive panel testing and the hul sides with withstand a blast from a 12ga shotgun with a slug at 40' and the bottome was even stronger.
There was quite a bit of innovation that went into the design and we had even aquired some computer modeling time on a Cray 90 super computer from a NASA affiliate to perform the computational fluid dynamics and refined the way the boundry layers were being generated. You won't see another hull with the shape of the step the way this one was designed, shingles between the steps before skater even begun to use them on their cats, staggered strakes and inverted chines. There was a lot going on with the design of this hul to generate a thin but very dense boundry layer so that it would not bobble around like most of the step bottom boats that hit the market in the mid to late 90's I got out of the marine industry after the project was canned and went on to doing IT related work. Now I am working my way slowly back into the industry and have always wondered what had happend to this hull. I'd like to track it down, see if it was completed or if it is sitting somewhere, buy it back and finish the project myself and toying with the notion of triple marinized Duramax Diesels turned up on some #6's Bubba |
That's a sexy beast!

Thx man, I think that I have located it and talked to someone who knows were it is. I am waiting for pictures to confirm and will post as I get more info.

It sat at Fast Forward fiberglass repair for a while then it went to a guy outside Baldwinsville N.Y. and was going to do something with it I was told but I haven't seen him in a while. I will try to find out if you haven't already found it.

I swear I saw that boat at the St Clair in water show one summer in the 90's.
Very cool. |
I found out today that it is where I thought it was and is for sale. It has had nothing done to it at all, just the bear hull. I can tell ya it is HUGHE

Vector 46 pics
I have posted a few pics of when we were originally building the boat back in 97-98 here is the link to the gallery
46 Vector Album Bubba Sorry for not responding to the threads lately. I have not been getting the notifications due spam filters. I have located the boat and been in contact with the current owner. My thoughts are to find sponsors to finish off the project if possible. I plan on making a trip to NY as soon as I can get away from the office for a couple of days. If I can find someone that would be interested in picking up the project and finishing it I would be willing to manage the project to completion. Any takers? |
Man that looks awesome! Makes me wish I knew how to work with aluminum. Just out of curiosity, how much is the current owner selling it for?

Bubba,
Are you a naval architect/marine engineer? I am really intersted in all the engineering that went into the build. Jr. |
cool looking boat
|
J-bonz, I have been in the marine industry and have designed several performance hulls in the past from Mod-vp bass boats to 50' cats.
Some of my previous projects have been with Hydra-Sports, Talon Marine, Mercury Powerboats when they were still around and Airborne Marine. PM me and I will answer any questions that you like. Bubba |

Vector Update
09/16/07 took a trip down to NY to inspect the boat first hand and snapped a few pics. Working out the details to purchase the boat back from the current owner and making plans to complete the build.

:Score-101010:That's UFB!!! Would love to see it whenever it gets completed. It looks like a combination of a few different types of boats. Very unique.

Bubbanator , I enjoyed looking at your pictures . Another
project that should be finished ! We had a guy in Kelowna who went big on ideas building two aluminum boats that were reposessed by the bank who financed the project . I think he lost his house in the process as well. Someone I know bought both boats from a repo yard . He still got the 36' V and sold the 50 Cat to someone in the southern states. The 36 V has two 900 SC engines and was almost completed , while the 50' cat was a hull/deck only on its custom trailer .Found out that the space for big engines were too small and would be more suitable for a slimmer turbine setup . Here are some pictures of the cat http://www3.telus.net/spectrasonly/50cat4jpeg.jpg http://www3.telus.net/spectrasonly/50cat5jpeg.jpg motorized seats http://www3.telus.net/spectrasonly/50cat6jpeg.jpg http://www3.telus.net/spectrasonly/50cat8jpeg.jpg http://www3.telus.net/spectrasonly/50cat2jpeg.jpg |
That is sweet!!!!

That Trailer Is Sick!!!!!!!!!
|
Bubba,
Good luck! The lines on that thing are PERFECT! |
Great thread. You should move it over to boating discussions and keep it on the front page.
|
so hows is the progress on buying her going
|
Awsome boat, looks like it could use some bulk heads?? So are you sure the owner planned on moving people?? desinged to withstand a Shotgun slug?? Go between Bahamas and S. FL HAHAHAHA:violent-smiley-045:
Seriously, its ashame it wasn't finished earlier, would have been way ahead of its time. |
