He really means it when he said he is done with the boards for a while. Craig and I actually live in the same neighborhood about 5 miles south of Annapolis. It is on the Rhode River and if he's not around I would be happy to hook you up with some fine Chesapeake Bay boating, only a 31 Formula, but maybe we can hot wire the Gun :drink: Worse comes to worse we both have small center consoles and a great dock bar right on the river, always good for a meal and a beverage:drink::drink:

Ted, Craig, Alec and Nick; you should be applauded for refusing to go along with something you felt was wrong and deceitful. Your attempt to handle the situation quietly should also be met with respect. It is unfortunate that a resolution could not be reached in an acceptable fashion.

Perhaps some feel that things could have been handled differently but I think they aren't seeing that you made the effort to do just that. In the end, you four had to do what you felt was best for you, for the industry, and people you felt needed to know the truth. It is too bad that some are still willing to blindly follow without asking questions.

Jayboat and a couple of others have taken a lot of heat lately and I am sure that there are those that will now attempt to draw you into the fire as well. I hope that all of you continue to stand firm in your convictions and the knowledge that you did the right thing.

I hope to see all of you on the water or at a race this season so that I can shake your hand as someone who appreciates those willing to stand for what's right.

Alec, Ted, Craig and Nick. I sure am happy to read those names on my screen again. I kinda missed you loogins :)
While you have all stated your reasons for doing what you did and they are indeed very good reasons, you left one out.

"For the love of the sport" ;)

It is very unfortunate that things went the way they did but just like anything else in life, we learn, we grow and we move on.

The entire premise of having a Board of Directors to me meant working with people I do not just like but people I trust completely.
That trust was broken in several ways and that is the reason I chose to resign my position at SOS.

I have been a member here since 2001. I have and will continue to visit here. I most definately will stay in close contact with the good friends I made while working for SOS and you know who you are so I need say no more.
I will miss working daily with the close knit group we became over there but I will certainly not miss the BS. We did a good thing and I think people knew it. It wasn't the place for everybody but for many, it was a comfortable place to hang out and shoot the .... and enjoy the company of like minded boatin fools :) Too Bad.

That said, its almost boating season here and I have other things to focus my energy on now.

Thanks again for posting the TRUTH guys.

Sean

Catastrophe, Cigdaze, Oldschool, Inspetch,
This is for the four of you now that you've come here and stated your case.
This would have been a lot easier to believe and/or understand if you would have done this together from the begining. Jay sort of became the spokesperson and his tone was wrong which then makes me a skeptic.
As this continues to move along the best I have to offer is enjoy your boats which draw us together.

I'd like to chime in here to say that I've never, for a second, felt like a spokesman in this. I did, and said what I did because I felt it was the right thing to do and because of my respect for Alec, Nick, Ted and Craig. If some of you were put off by my tone, sorry about that- I wear my heart on my sleeve and have no problem calling a spade a spade. Those who felt it necessary to make personal attacks only managed to shine light on their own deficiencies and deflect focus from the issue.

I also did it because, I, too, felt cheated. My time may not be so valuable to others, but it damn sure is valuable to me. For those of you who question my motivation I would propose that you do a little experiment. Set aside the time and $$$ it takes to acquire and process just TEN good images- you can put that many in one post. Set that part aside- don't even count it. Just take any ten photos on your drive, TEN. Upload them to a hosting site, record their urls and hotlink to them in a post here.

Now multiply the time it took you to do that by 500.

Then... tell me how you would feel knowing you had spent that much time and energy helping to further the efforts of a liar and a thief.

Yes a corporate company owning OSO leaves a bitter taste, and I too was very skeptical when OSO was experiencing problems.... However, many of the issues have been resolved and the moderators of OSO are all dedicated to "the sport" and making this the best place to visit!!

While IB pays the bills, it falls to the moderators to keep things running smoothly. IB is not a "boater", they are a business. Unfortunately, that can create an impression that is somewhat less friendly that it was when Steve was the owner. Your moderators, on the other hand, ARE boaters, board members, and your friends. IB has left it to the moderators of OSO to keep the community feel to the board. We do our best and of course there are times that our opinions don't mesh with those of others on the board. The moderators ask that everyone please keep in mind that we do what we do on a volunteer basis and try to keep personal opinion out of our decisions.

I would say that I take to heart the "this isn't home or family" posts since I put a lot of time into OSO - for free.... I have made some great friends from OSO and nothing can take that away....

Thank you for explaining how you felt through this.

Our original position within our offer was to remain silent.
Chris Sunkin completely destroyed that himself by badmouthing us to our former colleagues and friends.
His telling me he was going to sue me, made me take advice that included remaining silent.

As I watched this mess turn into being about us and not the actions of Chris it was time to speak up.

As for our friend Jay, I want you all to understand that he participated in a lot of the events and behind the scenes planning and was as much, let me rephrase here, he was more active than a lot of the boardmembers.
He has lost a lot here of something he helped create and build, as all of us have.
The whole team of photographers that attended our events were part of a group that was very very proud of what they were doing.
A lot of the pictures that were taken on our behalf were never anything that they could ever sell.
At one event Jay and Tim and Jeff took 32000 photos.1 event.

To all of them as well as Bruce and Sean and Dave , the SOS Pic Team, the four of us thank you all for every minute you helped us. I apologize for not being able to save it.

People are going to point fingers at all of us as we get into the summer and attend events. Hopefully they all understand we tried our best and it is as sad for us as anyone else that this all happened.

To the boardmembers from SOS who lost all their efforts too..I am a better person for having met each and every one of you.

To Paradox, please accept my aggressive defense of my dear friend Jayboat.

Does OSO sell jackets ???? I need one.

Catastrophe 04-23-2010 05:19 PM

I have explained Jays partipation in all this and want you to understand he was not put forward as a spokesman.

I have seen others state similar descriptions of Rob through this.
Rob was never involved in any group effort to bring this out.
Robs topics were seperate from anything the 4 of us concerned ourselves with.
The 4 of us were concerned about SOS, not Chris Sunkin.

We stood beside Chris as loyal followers through the period when Robs info was coming forward.
It was me personally on behalf of the boardmembers that called Rob and asked him to cease connecting SOS with Chris Sunkin.

One day hopefully he will explain that conversation.

In the end 4 good people concluded that SOS would never be seperate from Chris Sunkin and we had to take a stance.

I now thank Rob for opening my eyes and want everyone to know that whatever harsh words that were directed to him from me is because I was still drinking the Koolaid.

Why was SOS Formed?

SOS is the commonly used description for the international Morse code distress signal (· · · — — — · · ·). This distress signal was first adopted by the German government in radio regulations effective April 1, 1905, and became the worldwide standard under the second International Radiotelegraphic Convention, which was signed on November 3, 1906 and became effective on July 1, 1908. SOS remained the maritime radio distress signal until 1999, when it was replaced by the Global Maritime Distress Safety System. SOS is still recognized as a visual distress signal.

offshoredrillin 04-23-2010 05:41 PM

i'll go ahead and comment now,as I had said earlier when my email went viral, Alec, Ted, Nick and Craig took there time to make sure everything was correct. Alec did call me and ask me to back off, and I did. In the original days of the starting of SO, I was in the board room as well, I was one of the original guys fighting for Jay to be part of the photo section, certain people didnt want him because of his political view, I sent emails and pm's to people here on oso that I respected and enjoyed there comment, such as Jeff Helmkamp, Pete boden and Dick Tryce also known as Mr Gadgets. I got frustrated at certain board members that complained about every thread or each time someone spoke their mind,as told by one of my best friends, certain guys were so busy marking their territory no one felt welcome..even me. so i just went back to being a regular member...then I got tired of being attacked by a couple members and being reprimanded for it, so I walked, I would still log in, but got tired of it quickly. If you didn't fit into Sunkins plan, or follow his way, he would scheme behind your back and then deny/lie about it.
It makes me glad to see that the main 4 guys over there did their research and regardless of how difficult it was they did the right thing. I respect that!

As for IB, I am really impressed with the way that they have expounded on allowing the site to function, in the beginning I was not a happy camper, however in time I think they have done the right thing, nothing is free but I think IB wants us all to be happy and are working towards that...more to come on their participation in events soon ;)

It looks like once again your efforts have gone unnoticed, just like with the rest of these same old Internet "problems" I've experienced with you 1000 times in the past. You're the queen bee here, and it's really nice of you to let all of these people that tried to ruin OSO, talked down on you, etc, to come back, after having their feeble attempt totally shoved up their asses. Even though they don't have the sack to thank YOU for being allowed to come here & suck each others dicks, it doesn't mean that my nearly 10 years with you will ever go unnoticed. You do a fantastic job here, & should be commended for being able to balance a fantastic life and a day care simultaniously.

I'm happy to have been there with you through a lot of it!

Expensive Date 04-23-2010 05:54 PM

I was on OSO for a few years when I was asked to be a founding member of SOS.I was exited to work on something like that so I pretty much left here.My time is limited so I was not involved at the level of the four that have spoke before me.
When this all started two weeks ago tomorrow I was one of Chris's biggest supporters.I had no idea about any of this and I verbally attacked many people, for that I would like to offer my apology.
Last Monday night I started to discover that several things were just not adding up.After an an extended phone call and a lot of research I resigned from SOS as a moderator and founding member. Some have questioned why I did that on OSO I did it because I had publicly stated opinions that had changed and I wanted to be clear on that.
Like others have stated it may be a while before I internet boat again. But when I do it will be here.I also want to say that I think Heather Dawn and Jon have done a great job this week moderating very difficult threads.

Making money is a good thing, I think everyone can relate to that. But as Wall Street and many other industries have shown us over the years, there are ethical ways to make money, and some that are not. I will not sell my soul for money, nor would I ignore everything going on around me if it bothered me, just to make money. I chose a long time ago not to be a HO.

I seriously doubt the big thing here is about making money, pun intended.

I have very personal experience partnering with a BSer, a chronic pathological liar. I chose to walk. I think you can understand why I am clapping for Alec, and the others that did so. So yes, I can relate to the discussion. Three cheers for integrity.

Hold on, don't be dis'n my Ho's!!! IMHO The Ho's are the heart and sole of SOS. We didn't bounce any checks to charities, or misrepresent our past boat owing experience. We have all lied for no reason other than to get a reaction. Being an SOS Ho is a badge of honor for many of us. Great people,my friends, and a big part of what makes SOS the great place it is.

I can't even bring myself to log in over there. I hope to see more of the familair names from there over here. I was a big fan of SO and enjoyed meeting everyone in Miami but I just can't imagine being a part of it anymore. Would you eat at a restaurant with fantastic food but it was owned by a pedophile? No.. Maybe a bit too extreme an analogy but it's kinda how I feel..

Pete B 04-23-2010 10:17 PM

I have been around OSO since the beginning, When the offer was put out to be a Charter member, I decided I would participate. With it I met a lot of good people, as well as a few that I wouldnt piss on if on fire! I was most intrested in the racing side of it and with it I have been on several teams, been able to race, as well as find employment after retiring from the military. When SOS came along a friend invited me over to take a look, I seen many from here going there too, as well as some that were banned from here. :) One of the things I didnt care for was the limiting of size of pics, ( I see no need to blow it way out of proportion)
but to have a pic that would fill the screen. I was then asked if I would like to be part of the media section, and when told could post larger pics, I agreed. For me I dont post pics for the purpose of making $$$, its a added bonus, that offsets going to events, however I go to events on my own dime, if I cant afford it, It's quite simple I dont go! But, I also travel for work, which recently been gone a lot so I dont go to a lot of events when out of the country, I do try to catch a event or two while gone, as well as pics from where i am to share with the other viewers of either sites. Whether you like them or not, that is solely up to the veiwer, dont like my style of shooting dont look, its not hurting my feelings. I will continue to contribute to both site's as well as a couple others, until one goes away or whatever happens. Some feel that they have wasted a lot of time, Me personally I if I had other things to do I would be doing them! But being in a no alcohol , no fun zone called Kuwait currently all I have is time to kill! IE the internet, I can only read and listen to the news so much. And whether it's here or there, it will be just a matter of time before the drama of some other person or persons, decide to add to soap opera known by all
"as the prop turns"

Wow Brandon, thats a pretty harsh post considering you have / had the words Super Moderator in big red letters under your name on SOS !!!!!!!!!

Care to explain your vitriolic comment so that us "dick suckers" may understand ?

Are you inferring that you were on serious as a "super moderator" for the sole purpose of being a corporate spy the entire time you were part of the board of directors ( if thats the case, my and no doubt many peoples' opinion of your character just changed dramatically )or are you trying to deflect any attention that YOU are one of those"dick suckers" you so eloquently referred to in your post to Heather? ( In which case my and no doubt many peoples's opinion of you just changed dramatically )

Very UNCOOL
