I may be stupid and possibly made the dumbest remark in all of the sites history but it finally sparked some dam answers.
As far as it not being any of my business nor anybody elses , true but than again all of you came over here running your mouth how CS screwed people, and since i take it was his site and I frequented it i wanted answers. As my father always says " Either Chit or get off the pot " As far as SOS being started to fill the cozy feeling you all once had here and the reasoning of slow servers and big internet corporations. I say bullchit ! You guys saw what Steve did and figured the time was ripe to grab the many people here and drag them over to that site in the hopes of creating a marketable site down the road. |

But when you discover by reading Rob Freemans stuff, which by the way I sincerely thank him for, you begin to look closer and the emporers clothes start to fall off. When you check the software story and especially the classified story and its very not true, you ask questions. Everything that he has said he is, he is definately not. Back to the 4 comment. The 4 called Chris Sunkin out in writing TWICE. Both answers were BS. Chris Sunkin has gotten away with his exploits for one reason only. He surrounds himself with people with credibility. Given that it was decided that SOS is actually the future of his money source and the stage that is available to pontificate from it is a disaster in the making for someone or a group of people in this industry. 3 things specificately brought me to the end. 1. Chris Sunkin attempted to take money from a charity until I caught him. 2. Chris Sunkin attempted to use his connection with me to drag some of my dearest and best friends into his Saccenti boat venture as a dealer. 3. Chris Sunkin used the very hard work, resources and connection with others to propagate this mess. Moderators were being chosen on who they know and what lake they were from rather than their loyal commitment to work hard solely for SOS. There are countless times we were lied to and deceived. And as volunteers that is shameful. The volunteers that remain or are supporting the site currently do so because they felt it was theirs. It was. SOS has a cancer. To live, the cancer has to be eliminated. Under the current circumstances it is very odd that the solicitation of banner ad revenue has just now started. I personally was involved in the planning of bringing SOS to a pay site. Up until 2 weeks ago it was not to happen until a major image and feature change was finalized. It was disheartening to me that all that was never started since it was promised to all the volunteers in December. So you understand, any retort that comes from CS is manufactured crap. And any coached support is just that. Straight up...this man duped a lot of trusting hardworking loyal volunteers . There have been others that have had fundraisers in this sport. I remember one where a person took some money that wasnt theirs. I also remember what happened to him. A few years later we have the same thing happen and I read on here that some stupid dummy suggests giving the guy some slack. Have we gone so low or are we so desperate to be FOUNDING MEMBERS that we will accept that behaviour? At one point the other volunteers knew little of what 4 people knew. They all now have equal knowledge...and yet they remain. Those people that run successful fundraising, please ask yourself if after a lot of doorknocking and effort and jumping in freezing water so your balls shrink to a pee ...would you allow someone attempt to keep your money from its intended destination.???? I think that he forgot that we have friends that we've known forever. You know, like people that we've shared the love of boat ownership with. :D

Bill is correct here. There was no group plot to create a successful site only to sell it for profit. I joined the board a while later than the rest, but I have talked to every volunteer boardmember that was there. No one was motivated by any share of the pie. They were all there for personal pride and accomplishment. Now Chris Sunkin , on the other hand may have had other plans. But his motivations, I cant comment on. Couldnt trust what he ever said in retrospect. In the end you could tell he was lying, because his lips were moving. One thing that made me think that Sunkin may one day take on investers or sell it, was his constant comments to the few of us, that he had 120k in software costs plus 30k in the classified plug in. After he made those claims to us , we checked and they were proven to be completely out to lunch. The classiffied plug in cost less than $ 1000.00 to purchase and can be installed quite easily. Back to the volunteers....never were they looking for or expecting money. |

Part of the mess is a couple photographers disagree with the policy regarding where pictures are posted and the fact that a third photographer get favored by the site operator or owner or whatever he is. I enjoy your photos, I consider you all very good photographers and I understand the amount of effort you put into your products. But I still consider you businessmen and I visit these sites for a break from the business world and don't need to hear your issues. Boating forums are usually pretty special. At least there's one big interest people share in common. Sometimes it's pretty easy to figure out the BS'ers, sometimes not. I never quite understood the need for people to feel so important, I guess they think the truth would ruin their reps? Who knows. I make pretty decent bucks, but my ex gets so much after-tax money, I couldn't put a 525 in my budget to save me, much less the boat to fit it in. Oh well. So I have a 22' cuddy with a small block. Better than being on land all summer. :lolhit: Maybe Jay can come up and do some arial shots of me blasting through one footers at 40 mph :eek:
This site and others have some very good technical data on it, and I know many of you guys push the HP engines through hell, so it's good data. I'm on many, many boating-related sites. Some pretty fantastic pictures and videos, good guides to where to go and what to do. No reason to BS people at all. I could care less if Chris had an Apache or a Bayliner, makes no diff to me. Some of the other stuff makes a big difference. I'll always be a spectator in the land of offshore racing and poker runs, which is fine by me. I plan to go to the Key West races in November, something I missed out on last year. Many people on this site I'd love to meet and have a drink with. Maybe the best lesson that can be learned from all of this chaos, is to just be yourself. Nobody else can do that for you. If that's not good enough for people, not much you can do to change it. The alternatives are to live in some fantasy world, and to live your life for someone else. Not much fun in that IMHO. Have fun, go boating. People shouldn't be so full of themselves, there's always going to be someone, somewhere with more money, bigger and faster cars and boats, whatever. I now need to make some major boating-related purchases. Some more 303 Hi Tech Fabric guard and some Woody Wax, so there goes the April boat budget. :signs069: |
