Most major sites are not even using it anymore, as the percent has dropped so low, as to be almost useless. It used to be something like 5%. now its less than .2% When it was high, the most important part of it was doing the math, of how many clicks equaled how many sales the advertiser got. a million clicks and no sales is useless compared to 10 clicks and 2 sales. Even Alexa which as I said is easy to "adjust" will give you better info on the site traffic than click throughs will.

I'd estimate that Jay probably spends more time in choppers taking pics of boats, and riding in boats, than many do here that actually own boats. Take his journey with Bobthebuilder........
From a boat owner's perspective, I'd prefer Jay's boating budget to my own :lolhit: Off to polish the hull and prepare to splash |

This is why these threads get uncivil. You dont know what you are talking about and should stay quiet. Jay put more time and effort into the entertainment of members at SOS than Chris Sunkin ever did. He also put more personal risk money up to do so. Jay covered 24 events in 2009 . He travelled at his own expense to very many out of town events. All the photographers did. Nobody on either SOS or OSO understands the math that goes along with the photography topic more than me. Ask them all. It is not pretty for the return on travel costs and effort. The cost to Chris Sunkin personally to start and maintain SOS was next to nothing as it turns out. The numbers that Sunkin has floated out there have been confirmed as absolutely false. Jays efforts behind the scenes are only known and understood by a few, including a lot of work for the future that now wont transpire. Do you all enjoy Steve 1 thread ?? Thank Jay. |

Seriously, look at the title of this thread and ask yourself why this thread is still rolling, and all of the other IDENTICAL threads are locked? In answer to your question....probably less than half of 1%. |
Jay probably does not need defending, but I remember when he came on OSO, he presented himself honestly, he was living in a small place with an old boat, that if I am correct was destroyed during Katrina. He had just moved to Fl to take a new job before the Hurricane. After Katrina he was left with no job and his place was a mess, he eventually moved to the Naples area and that's when he met up with Bob and then you know the rest of the story.
Funny thing is when SOS started I knew CS from here but had never read all his posts about the different brands of boats he said he had or has. I did not join SOS because I thought he was a big time boat owner and I bet others did not care as well. I also don't believe you have to have a boat to participate or own this type of web site, you just have to love the sport. However to remain respected within this community. which we all know is not very annonomous, you have to be honest, maybe you can embellish a little now and again but to out right lie over and over again will turn people off and away from you. |

I was thinking about this topic and someone metioning Jay not having a boat. It made me realize that Jay is the perfect example of how you don't have to present yourself any differnt than you are to get along and make friends in this offshore community. If you met Jay you would find him (or at least I do) as an aging Hippie and a bit of a teddybear, with a wandering spirit and a lot of liberal ideas:D Very opposite of the majority of members here. However he has managed on his own terms to become friends with a lot of this community's movers and shakers. As many of you know, he is currently enjoying another great adventure with BobtheBuilder in BVI. So if anyone thinks they have to make up stories about what they own or what they know, just think of Jay and then just be yourself.

Jay has more money tied up in just his camera body than it cost CS to start sos, buy the software, and pay to host it for a year. And getting to look at his pictures are worth 100000 times that. Let me just say this...I formed my {Negative} opinion of Jay based on some comments that i perseived to be anti-Veteran or showed a lack of respect to Vets. I may be a bit sensitive on this subject.Sooo...Based on what some people that I respect have told me and you who have posted. I may be wrong in my opinion { Hard for me to believe:drink:}

I can talk to some of these points.
Advertisers It was decided at the outset to not charge for banner advertising with the theory that SOS would prove itself with traffic and interesting features before asking for money. The same attitude was taken for the Classified Section. Until it was populated and proved to be helpful for its users it was free to use. The classifieds went nowhere. We watched traffic increase every month. We tracked daily post counts and were pleased that they equalled other sites and on specific weekdays actually surpassed OSO. ( subsequent to all that I have learned that this is not the measure of an active site, but rather CLICK THROUGHS is how traffic is measured ) Nonetheless we were pleased but decided in OCT.09 that we would target Jan.1 2010 as the date to start charging. That was the date that a new feature at SOS would be launched. We termed it Serious 2.0., and it would include industry writers and blogging and a host of new items that would again improve traffic and the entertainment of the members. Different boardmember volunteers had different sections ( example-Calendars ) to work on and spent hours collecting info for it. This feature required software changes to be done by someone who wasnt on the volunteer team and was the person who controlled our servers and the actual existence of SOS. Chris told us that this person was working on it and would get us up and running this feature asap as far back as OCT. This was the individual that Chris said was the major expense of the site. Serious 2.0 never happened. We were never allowed to contact the person directly. I did. In February I found who he was and called him. When I asked how the project he was working on for Chris was coming along, he didnt know what I was talking about and said he wasnt working on anything. You have read the rest. TRAFFIC SOS consistently enjoyed 700 - 900 posts on the busier days in the week. 2 of us tracked it constantly. Tuesday ( 3 days ago ) SOS had 89 posts. On some days when people have the time, it has been seen that flagwavers over there have actually posted as much as 132 times in one day. That BS along with the stupidity of having the REFRESH clock set at what it is , is obviously to impress people like yourself that may want to advertise on a falsely busy site. This gives me the chance to point out the resistence onhere to completely drop this whole subject. Subsequent to the revelations about certain topics here Chris Sunkin has been very actively approaching advertisers despite the fact that Serious 2.0 never happened. To accept a 3000.00 check for an annual banner ad you have to make sure you can deliver for a year. If you cant deliver or even exist you can expect that the advertiser will be asking for his money back for the portion of the period that he received no value or exposure. Dozens of potential advertisers have told individuals involved in this topic that they were just about to send Chris Sunkin money, but because they read this information on here they declined. A very major advertiser approached one of the posters on here just 3 days ago and said they hadnt heard any of this and luckily were warned by friends to contact people as they were also about to forward money. 12 month ad contracts involve trust funds. At the 3 month mark only 25% of that money has been earned and the rest better be available to be returned if need be. Given the current circumstances you have to have some nerve asking for financial support. The flagwavers are obvious on here so you might want to approach one of them to confirm that this post is accurate. Be careful who you ask because a couple of them that still support the site did absolutely NOTHING during their tenure. Hope that clears up some of your queries. With almost no money coming in (financial health)....almost no posts (interest level).....all due to advertiser and members growing awareness that the owner (Sunkin) is an incredible liar, charity bilking scumbag and con man extraordinare. A scallywag! When would you expect SOS to dissolve? Ed |

T Shirt purchases seems to be all there is in expenditures which are more than covered by membership fees. As long as there is external financial support he will maintain ad infinitem. |

The obvious deceipt and disrespect for anyones intelligence is mind boggling.
Showing 171 people on line over there and the FIRST post of the day on the Dock, shows up at 754 am. This is just a continuation of the absolute BS attitude towards those that were there to make the place, those that are paying for the place and those that visited the place. With the intense exposure over 7 weeks re BS stories since 2006 you'd almost think it would slow down or stop. Nope ............still happening as at 8:14 June 1 2010 |

an't wait for the stories if he was. I spoke with tons of people and the general consensus was the same. Everyone knows he is a liar and thief and most have stopped posting over there. even more so they are disheartened by the people that are still following and waving the flag. Instead of people being vocal they just want the site to die slowly and he will be gone with it. |
