It isn't a haven for anyone because no one is left.
In the beginning it felt like a site for powerboaters, by powerboaters. The 'powerboaters' being like minded people instead of a major corporation (IB). Just like OSO was when Steve owned it... only better because it had more of an 'us' feel even to the average member.
Now what place does Serious have? What point does it serve? No one feels like it is going to help give us powerboaters a better name through charity, that's for sure. No one wants to spend the time making it better because it is tainted. The major difference it had in the beginning is completely blown... now it is just another forum at best. Relative to OSO and a few other sites out there it just doesn't have a place because it has no where near the membership, information, or anything else.

While true, there were/are a few rotten apples during the whole serious debacle and irregardless of whatever happened in the back rooms and the actions of a very few members there, I must say that my involvement with serious has been positive. I have met many in person and many more online that are good people, an asset to the sport and have become friends. I just don't want it to become that any involvement as a member of that site immediatly constitues the wearing of a scarlet S on ones chest. True there are some that need a big 'L' tattoed prominantly on there forehead, but by and large most were/are good people.
I feel fortunate at the relationships I have established as a result of being there. The most unfortunate aspect for me is the loss of what it was, to the basic member.

I feel I could still visit SOS without fear or reprisal or having to choose sides, but why bother? It didn't grow the size needed to rival the potency of influence of OSO. At the same time, coming back to OSO it's obvious they cleaned up the internet speed issues and other matters that originally sparked the foundation of SOS.
Most everyone that was enjoyable to read and interact with at SOS have come back to OSO. So what is the real reason for SOS, besides apparently serving as a shell of what it once was AND an echo chamber for the clinically schizophrenic.

it served a huge purpose, to weed out another liar and scammer and thief that was trying to take lots of people for small amounts under the guise of an "offshore expert"
