I have not done it into the US but I would imagine it would be similar to bringing it into Canada.....title and bill of sale for both boat and trailer, fill in a Form 1 at the border, pay your taxes and your good to go.....

Taxes!!! Tax on a used boat? What taxes do you pay and to whom, Canada or customs for duty - anyone know what exactly is involved?

I thought I just stated what was involved.....?

Title/registration for the boat and trailer, a bill of sale for each, an importation form filled out and "sales" tax, GST HST or whatever it is called in whatever state or province the boat is being brought into.....here at least, some of the tax goes to the Feds and some to the Provincial government, basically 12% of the purchase price.....

I looked into it. If the boat was made in North America per NAFTA there is no duty - and for a used boat in my state there is no sales tax. There are still those pesky forms that you mentioned but I was most concerned with the $s involved.

Thanks

Bought my boat in Canada. The hauler brought it over at Port Huron. It was previously registered in the US. I used a customs broker. No extra taxes to be paid, other than the local sales tax. Painless transaction. If the boat was never registered here, there may be extra paperwork and costs.

ive sent fedex envelops into a drop box for next day or overnight delivery at truck stops and put my credit card number ON the package because I dont get home for months at a time....I got home last fall and had about 5 collections bills for the envelops I used...they didnt even use my card number I wrote down in the spot that says "card number"....instead they billed my house, and since I didnt get it within 30 days, they sent it to collections...

If you guys ever watch how fedex drivers drive, youd understand why your stuff gets broken all the time. They dont call double and triple pup trailers "wiggle wagons" for nothing!!

Default two countries separated by a common language

Living in Detroit which is the only major American city on an international border - we have come to know the issues - first don't try to sneek anything over the border - get caught you owe your life - second Canada may seem like its own country its not - whose pic is in the post office, on the money and who's crown is on all the car licenses - the queen - and God save her!

No mail fraud enforcement in Canada - we come to expect business integrity in old USA enforced Postal Police. Buy something from Canada and the seller uses the mail - they cheat you - call Canadian Postal and get informed they have no such enforcement. Blame CANADA!

C-A-N-A-D-A - How are things in the provinces?

Least they don't have the George Bush psycho SS police - boating on the Detroit River you have your US Coast Guard, your Canadian Coast Guard, US Navy, Canadian Navy, Detroit Police, Windsor Police, Michigan State Police, Ontario Provential Police, Michigan County Sherif, Homeland Security Police, US Customs, Canadian Customs, FBI and The Boarder Patrol - maybe a couple more I forgot.
