What were the actual sequence of events that led to the "broken" parts?
Did the boat even start when it arrived? |
Here's an actual example from 3 weeks ago. I had a customer bring his donzi in to be fixed for a scrape on bottom and he had sold it and buying a 28 foot donzi I believe in boston. We get his done and it leaves for Houston to its new owner. Joe calls me 3 days later on the donzi he was buying and was sad that the transom didn't pass the survey and had signs of water in cylinder. He spent 800 for nothing some say. But like me and him agree that he spent 800 to save several thousand in immediate repairs. This is a hobby and an expensive one at that but I will pay for a survey no problem on next boat. Congrats on your new boat and have fun with it.

Guys, I had this long explanation written out but accidently erased it and just don't have the time right now to go back and fill back in all the details. Its kind of a crappy situation for all involved but Ed has been great to deal with and has never not once taken my call in regards to this situation. Yes there was a problem with the motor when it got to me. Several severely broken lifters that did a lot of damage to the engine. We all know the shoulda woulda coulda's on this situation apply to all 3 of us involved. Buyer/broker/seller. We all share in the blame in. Ed has stepped up big time to offer some financial support because he feels bad, the seller has not. We will get through it and life will go on.

I didnt think he(cigtech43) mentioned any ones name in a bad manner. He stated ed has went out of his way to help settle the deal. And as in anyone here that says that if they bought a boat worth 150.000 for 100.000 and was told it had no issues. Then when you first fired it up something was wrong and you wouldnt be mad. Then im calling bull**** money is money, time is time. Im sure the customer would had bought a diff boat if he'd known of engine issues. As buying without seeing, i purchased a 35 fountain from Jim Earl Marine in canada and when it got here i was very pleased with the deal. So not all sight unseen deals are a waste. And ive seen some peoples ideal of a clean boat, and others and theres no comparison.

Djkool99usa. I have no proxy, but just like LOTO its a small boating community. A lot of people know me and know what happened and have spoke out with some of there opinions and with questions. I would have rather of kept this under wraps. As far as my membership goes, I had to upgrade it so that I could put my other boat for sale. Your remarks are exactly why I don't post here because all it does is stir the pot. After this thread took off I did draft a simple explanation to what the situation was and to how it was being handled. Hope this helps you feel better.

Ed's quick response to this thread and the replies he posted only examplify the integrity he has.
I'm sure everybody would like turn the clock back on this deal, but that can't happen. |

Did the boat even start when it arrived? Anyone that has been around a 1000hp can state it is not easy to tell when they are getting a little water intrusion. That water/antifreeze sitting over the long winter months is going to cause problems come spring. If it wasn't caused by water, a broken rocker on a high HP set up is not that uncommon. I know guys with big power that carry spare rockers on board. As a seller I wouldn't sell my boat right now in winter storage, I would want to at least start it up first. As a buyer there is no way I would purchase a boat without at least starting it. This was one of the coldest winters on record, how could you be sure everything was ok based on last fall? Even videos of the engines running before purchase, paying for new antifreeze after the fact, its a digital age! If I were a Jury I would put 90 percent blame on buyer, 10 percent on seller, and zero on broker. The fact that Eddie stepped up is simply amazing. In a day when brokers are protecting themselves as "real brokers" vs internet sellers that offer no value, Eddie has shown his value to the buyer and seller. |
