I have not been to the Abacos and I hear it's absolutely beautiful. It is in my future boating plans tho and hoping to spend some time in northern Bahamas this fall but will see about that. I've done the Berry Islands, out to Nassau, the Eluthera chain. lots of time in the Exumas and southern Bahamas. Jay has some spectacular pics of the Bahamas but I know he is busy with events these days. His third pic in post 4 was when he flew out to the Exumas to join me last year. Later this morning I will start a thread devoted entirely to the Bahamas. Many OSO have been there, some with the Florida Powerboat Club and I am sure it will become a very active thread and subject.

Bobthebuilder 06-12-2011 02:06 PM

It's not the Tiger David, it's YOU !! LOL Don't you hate that with all those chicks climbing around your boat ! LOL I can tell. :)

I love that Guana Island pic as well with the rock so close to the beach / water. That is one place you have not taken me so .... next time.

Bob, I love following these threads. What a life you have! Beautiful places ! Dont stop posting, It gives us something to strive for! Just awesome....

I agree. This post is great. Looking at a map, it seems a very long distance between Turks and Puerto Rico. Do you stop in the Dominican Republic to get gas?

Thank you for your kind words. I have had concerns I was posting way too much here. I am just wanting to help this new section get established and once it has enough posters and momentum will be nice to see it carry on with minimum involvement from me. It will hopefully become a great little playground for some of our friends down in the Islands and a resource for those wanting to go down and spend some time there. Think we are off to a pretty good start. :)
Again, thanks.

Yes we had to stop at Ocean World Marina at Puerto Plata, DR as Puerto Rico was beyond our 400 mile range from T & C. It was our least favored stop of that whole trip but at the same time was an interesting experience. Contrary to what I was told and read, no bribes were asked for by any of the officials at DR. We over nighted there and the aggravation with dealing with about 7 different government departments including the Navy who served as drug enforcement. They took their sweet time and we waited almost 3 hrs for their arrival after all other clearances had been obtained. They were the only jurisdiction to actually go into my cabin, open every compartment and search for drugs. The next morning when we left for Ponce, PR it was the same thing all over again with same guys keeping us waiting until 11 AM for departure. It was dark by the time we arrived in Ponce that night, but as I said ..... an interesting experience. To many in the Islands, time has no meaning. Really quite different from my world but I am trying to learn from them. LOL Maybe I will live longer? :)

Time to go " down island"

5 Attachment(s)
I have lots more pics etc i can share on BVI and will in the future but thought maybe it is time to drift off "down island" to St. Maarten / St. Martin; St. Bartt's; Antigua; St. Lucia; St. Kitts etc.

Here are some of my favorite pics from St Maarten ( Dutch side )

1) Simpson Bay Marina

2) Fuel dock at Philipsburg the Capital with the town's waterfront in the background

3) Closer look at the beachfront at Philipsburg. Very clean and nice boardwalk all along the beach.

4)Closer look at the boardwalk. Further along there is beach on left side and shops / restaurants on the other. Mainly to cater to cruise ship passengers and tourists. Walking distance from the deep water port.

5)It's a sport to stand on the beach while landing planes pretty well give you a haircut. The fence has been taken out a few times by landing gear when landing short.

Grand Case is known for it's great restaurants. Many overlook the sea and I had a great meal there with friends from Canada that just happened to be there at the same time.

Link to Grand Case restaurants http://www.grandcase.com/restaurants.html

1) Grand Case located on a picturesque bay with nice beach and waters.

2)Closer look at the colorful beachfront hotels and restaurants

3)Narrow streets of Grand Case

4)View from buddy Jamie's hotel

5)Grand Case sunset

Now the winter weather has set in for most of the Northern latitudes, it's about time to revive these Caribbean threads. Here are a couple shots of Bob's Team Predator from last spring. The first needs no explaination and I guess the second doesn't either. Jay needs a nap now and then-I'm just not sure of his timing. The third is the trio on my sold Tiger. Had some fun on that thing.

Nice, David and thanks for posting. Your pics bring back great memories. I am looking forward to seeing you and Chrissann on Dec 13 - 18 coming up soon. Team PREDATOR will return to the Islands in mid Feb for the balance of the winter as there is so much more to see. When I find a bit of time I will get back to posting a few more of my favorite pics.

Not sure about that, but yes I do enjoy visiting new places with the boat. I will post some additional Island pics this afternoon. I need to get these up before my return to the Islands ! Will be at Saba Rock from Dec 13 to 18 for a return visit. Team PREDATOR will return to the islands mid Feb and I hope to spend some time each month Island cruising until May when we hope to do the BVI poker run once again. Rather than go way down island this winter, I hope to make BVI home base and take more time to really check out more islands within a 150 mile range from Puerto Rico and the Spanish Virgin Islands to the west and St Kitts / Nevis to the SE. Would like to return to St Maarten, check out the fabulous beaches of Anguilla. So much more to see that I could only get a glimpse of the last two years. If anyone has some suggestions for " must see locations" please post up or let me know by PM or e mail [email protected] Local knowledge is invaluable.

Thank you,
Bob
