1) View looking north from Ch & Ch deck.
2)The Monument is sometimes called the Salt Beacon because it was used (when lit) to guide cargo ships into Elizabeth Harbour to George Town for purposes of picking up salt. The salt was mined at various places on Great and Little Exuma.

Florida Powerboat Club is going to the Bahamas at the end of July, for 6 days. We will change islands 3 times.
We start in Ft Lauderdale and cross to Bimini early on Thursday morning. We will clear customs there and stay two nights. This is a beautiful property. We rent golf carts, and go into town at night. During the day we will snorkel and swim with sting rays!
We leave Bimini and go to grand Bahama Island, and stay two nights at Our Lucaya. There is a casino on property, and lots of other fun things to do.
Finally we travel to West End, everyone loves Old Bahama Bay, the rooms are so pretty and comfey! and close to home. It's just 1.5hrs home to Ft Lauderdale.
If you have an interest in joining us, please call the club office for more information.

Back in 2002 we raced in Grand Bahama. We elected not to ship our boat over and make the crossing in the race boat (38 Cig). It was after a hurricane and seas were huge in the Gulfstream. To make a long story short we made it to Grand Bahama and had a blast. We broke a drive on the way back and Steve from OSO picked me up in the Gladiator! I'm looking forward to following you around one day Bob!

Thanks for posting that Jackie. For anyone wanting an introduction to the Bahamas this is a great way to do it. They get many returnees each year as well so people obviously enjoy doing it. I first did it about 12 years ago with the Florida Powerboat Club. It's a great time, very social and laid back. Enjoy and I just might come down and join you !!

Interesting story, Brian. The trick is to make the Gulf stream crossing with light winds out of the south but so often it seems natures schedule and ours do not always mesh! We will have to get together in the year ahead. I will be sending you our FMO schedule when ready in a month or so and if that does not work you will just have to come down and join me in the Islands. Planning to ship back to St Thomas in February and spend some time down there like this year. It's addictive !! Hope to see you soon.

Gotta check out the Abaco's! The wife and I went there for our honymoon one year ago. Landed in Marsh Harbor and had a boat to get us to Austin's place we were staying. They have a great place on Lubbers.. Boated the whole time we were there! The ride to Pete's Pub on the Pantera the best..
