We have a 48 power cat set for Mar 11-17th. Getting pretty excited. It's our first trip doing this. Been watching the rebuilds after the Hurricanes.
We are picking up on Scrub island and putting around for the week.
Anybody have any tips??

Also wondering about Cell service since the storm. It's not looking to good from what I can find out.
I will be getting a Sat phone. Just can't be unplugged from the bizz for that long.
Any ideas there? Any locals that can comment on cell service?

Really looking forward to some WARM weather and Sunshine!!
Thanks Q

I always thought the idea of those trips was to turn the phone off... I always do haha.

My only tip is get up early and enjoy the mornings, swim/drink/eat before lunch and the trip feels twice as long.

Do you have any plans for where you are going to go? Usually the charter companies provide an itinerary. It was a few years ago when I was there so the cell service was fine back then, but now I don't know. When I was there we woke up really early, moved the boat, and planned to arrive at our destination by 10am, then enjoy the day and night.

Perlmudder- That is pretty much what we have planned as far as early departure to the next destination. 2 of the couples w us have done this bareboat before so we are just along for the Drinking!!

I actually talked to a local an hour ago to locate a 2nd Dingy and he said the cell service is pretty good again.
As for Turning OFF- It will be most of the time!!

If it was me, I'd head south, circle the island up to Jost Van Dyke and then back to Scrub. Of course, if you see a cove, harbor or swim up beach bar, I'd anchor away for the pillaging detour!!! Watch the weather and always have a backup plan (take an EPIRB if you have one). Many of the bars and marinas have free Wi-Fi or just ask for the code and most will allow. Enjoy...sound like an awesome adventure.
