Kreed, you can't make a post like that w/o posting pics! :D
Or would this happen to be yours.

Just need a bigger motor! :)
Having worked on a twin 27 Carrera I can tell you its harder to work on them.
I would take the single myself unless I did a lot of offshore running.

kreed 04-10-2009 07:28 AM

Hello Stormrider-
Yes ,that is my boat. I bought it last June. I sold that engine in November and the new 540 will be done by the end of this weekend. Then off to the dyno. I love this boat. The previous owner did a great job. I also re-did the cockpit seats and the cuddy couches and bed. It needed to be updated.

kreed 04-10-2009 07:31 AM

Stormrider, I just realized you had a Pantera. Thats what I wanted , but couldnt afford! What you got now?

Stormrider 04-10-2009 07:58 AM

Kreed, i've been boatless for too long.
And no end in sight. :(
IMO, your boat was a great buy!
If you go back thru old threads, you'd see that.

dont forget to post more pics.

kreed 04-22-2009 06:46 AM

Finished the 540 motor for my Carrera. Dyno'ed on Friday. Made 685 HP and 695 Ft LBS torque. Thats through 4" flowmasters and on 93 octane gas. Boat went 63 MPH with 450 HP last year, looking for at least 70 this year. With any luck , will be making test passes on Sunday!!!!! :evilb:

Stormrider 04-22-2009 08:15 AM

Nice! let us know how it goes.
you don't think a 50% HP increase w/ yield more than 7mph?

21eagle 04-22-2009 10:11 AM

27 carrera

the 27 carrera is sweeet! i really like it with the single not a big fan of twins really nice looking boat cant wait to see what it runs i think stormrider is right should be better than 7mph

Stormrider 04-22-2009 12:53 PM

Chris, i know of a single for sale on LI, but its 'asking' double what you wanna spend.

21eagle 04-22-2009 02:54 PM

is that a 28, or a 24?

kreed 04-23-2009 07:42 AM

Hi guys- Storm rider, how much is the Carrera in L.I. ? A friend of mine is looking for one. As far as the 7 MPH goes, it is a heavy boat and I dont want to disappoint myself expecting 80 MPH. If it does 75 I will be crazy happy. I think somewhere between 70 - 75. Setting up the new MSD ignition tonight, then bolting on the exaust and a few minor things, should be done by Sat. Really excited to open it up !!! :ernaehrung004:

21eagle 04-23-2009 08:33 AM

24

maybe a 24 i cant find the da*^ post now he was looking to unload it i think chris

Stormrider 04-23-2009 08:44 AM

Very nice lookin boat. They are funs boat to drive and they handles rough water pretty well.

kreed 04-27-2009 09:17 AM

up date. Finished the boat yesterday about 4:00 PM. Took it to the Ct. River to get a couple hrs in the sun. Did not beat it up yet. Carb needs alittle adjusting and was acting alittle finnicky, but thats a dominator for ya. Got up on plane, and was running 40 MPH at 3000 rpm. Dont know what that is going to calculate out to be for a top speed, but will find out soon. I think 3000 RPM may be luggin it alittle seeing the motor made peak toque at 4600 RPM. Am I right?

Stormrider 04-27-2009 09:37 AM

where was peak HP?
I'd think you'd wanna be easily cruising round 4000rpm.

kreed 04-27-2009 09:41 AM

peak HP was at 5500 RPM...........

kreed 04-27-2009 09:46 AM

If Im at 3000 RPM and 40 MPH, Could I be cruising at 55 at 4000 RPM ? That would be sweet. Ive got a 28 Bravo 1 on it right now...............

Stormrider 04-27-2009 10:07 AM

i used to cruise at 50 @ 4000rpm.
so yea... i'd say you'd be around 53-55 @ 4k.
you need to run it more.
make a spread sheet of rpms/mph.
then talk to throttle up.

kreed 04-28-2009 07:47 AM

Ok, went out yesterday afternoon, 4000 rpm...........58-60 MPH. (depending on water conditions and current). With the wind and current, 60 MPH. 5000 RPM.......72MPH. Didnt want to kill it on the second day out so thats as far as I pushed it. Plus, there is alot of stuff floating in the river. My problem is going to be my cruising speed on the CT river. Everyone cruises at 40 to 45 MPH. The speed limit is 35 on the weekends. At cruising RPM, 4000, Im at 60MPH! To cruise at 45, Im luggin it at 2500 RPM. I think I need 2 Props. One for the ocean and 1 for the river.............

Stormrider 04-28-2009 08:12 AM

I hear you.
At 25mph, i'd be falling off plane.

Keep testing, can call Julie at throttle up w/ your issues.
They may be able to make a prop to solve them.

kreed 05-27-2009 08:27 AM

Just an update, been trying alot of different props on the boat. This weekend used a 28 Bravo 1 LH. Full tank of fuel and 4 people in the boat, we went 72 MPH. That is also in flat water on the river. The boat likes the extra weight of a full tank, it handles great with weight on board. Was having trouble with the hull " torque rolling " with a RH prop, so I tried the LH. Worked great. Im going to lab finish this prop and hopefully going to gain alittle RPM and speed !!!!!!!!!!!

jdub 05-27-2009 08:37 PM

Nice...Kreed, do you know what your "x" is set at? How far is your propshaft below the bottom of the boat?

kreed 05-28-2009 06:06 AM

I dont know what the x dim is. Ive never measured how far below the prop is. If you could give me some guide lines on how to make that measurement ,I would really be interested in checking the x min. Your not the first person that was concerned about this possible problem. Thanks in advance..........Kevin

rchevelle71 05-28-2009 06:16 AM

Nice #, but I would still try a 3 blade, might get an extra few MPH.

kreed 05-28-2009 04:24 PM

I have a 27 LH mirage labbed. Its a hubless prop and the brass spacer that goes behind it is different than a spacer for a prop with a hub. I need to find the right spacer. Bought the prop on Ebay for 100.00 and it didnt have the spacer w/ it. I think it will work good for top end speed.

Stormrider 06-02-2009 12:57 PM

Not to hijack this derailed thread, but i just saw the ebay 27.
Took a few extra pics. It was built for MRD and raced and supposedly won some races back in 1989.
2 fuel tanks, no cabin. Cockpit looks good enough.
Dash seems fairly original.
Couple of gel chips on hull, but pretty clean.
Asking $19.9k.

kreed 06-02-2009 05:15 PM

Is that the one w/ 2 small blocks? Tell us more about it !!!! Speed? Prop sizes? On a trailer? Is it worth 19,900.??? Tell more!!!!:evilb:

Stormrider 06-03-2009 08:26 AM

It was not clean enough for my standards, and imo, doesn't compare to how yours looked in the pics.
The pics i took are pretty much the same as the ad.
If i have time, i can resize and post here.
I think the owner said it hits low-mid 60s.
I have no detailed info on props, speeds and the sort... sorry.

kreed 06-03-2009 10:34 AM

Yea, I think the bidding went up to about 12,000 on ebay. I was hoping that would be your possible next boat! Probably a nice riding boat with the 2 small blocks. He is going to have that boat for a while unless he's flexable on his price..........

jdub 06-10-2009 06:24 AM

Kreed, with your drive trimmed down measure from the prop shaft centerline ( pretty much the nose on your drive) up to the bottom of your boat. If you have someone hold a 2' or 4' level from your propshaft centerline to the bottom of the boat makes it easier. You will most likely see a number like 7" or more.
