Company History
There is a good article in June 2005 article about family owned and operated boat companies. The article states: "Checkmate Boats was founded in 1963 by William H. Combs. The Bucyrus, Ohio, company is now in its 43rd year of building boats." They also say Checkmate has remained in the same location for 43 years and still hand lays their boats. Strong history.
