Anyone heard any rumors about Checkmate being sold?:eek:

The new majority owner is John Adams of "Baja" fame. From what I've read from Kip at Checkmate is that the the change should take place in the next few weeks and that great things are planned for Checkmate. Improved interiors, advertising, new products, rigging, etc. Kip, Mike, and even Bill will remain at the factory in various roles. Let's hope that this is a positive change. There are many die hard Checkmate fans out there that want to see the boats get even better...after all, Checkmate has been around for over 40 years!!!!

Yep im hoping they get the word back out about checkmate. I havent seen a checkmate ad in a boat magazine in...forever lol.

I think John Adams was like the 2nd President of the United States. He probably would have liked Checkmates and Bajas though!:D

As a Checkmate owner I would like to commend and congratulate Bill Combs for a great product and one hell of a run for Checkmate Powerboats if indeed the company is changing hands.

They are having a bunch of fun playing in the snow. This is the little ones first big snow, and she comes back into the house covered in it.

So its a project boat, big deal. You tell us about the crack, like the guy didn't mention it or something. Its right there in the ad.

Ok guys ... its officially a done deal. Doug Smith and company are the new owners of Checkmate. Bill and Doug both just left smiling :D

This is just what Checkmate needed!! They build an incredibly nice boat but they need some freshening in the design department.
Doug Smith will make the necessary changes to the molds to bring the great company up to date.
I can't wait to see what they do!!!

I think the timing of the outboard theme is innovative but I hope they don't forget about the offshore IO segment.

WW .. they've signed up a few new dealers so Im not sure which place they were headin but I can find out if ya want ....

LOL - Im proud of both the boat companys in my home town. Ive been a lurker over here in the Checkmate section for a while .... I just talk to Doug more than I used to talk to Bill. :D

i hope its a positive move too, i love checkmate. I like their traditional designs, so hopefully they don't get too far from their roots.
