Suggestions welcome! Not sure if I'm just trying to trim it up too much or my drives aren't at identical trim or ????? |

1999 283 Convicer, 565" Imco stand off box, 27" labbed prop, all the junk out of the front, light on fuel, very light. 87.7mph GPS, with 5 bad cam lobes. One pass, didnt see the tach or have the datalogger running. Found myself in shallow water and had to back out of it. I suspect I was at 6300rpm, but dont know.
Was going to do some backup runs the next weekend and found the damaged lifters and cam lobes. |

Thats hard to belive with 5 bad cam lobes. That engine must have 1000 hp do do that with 5 bad lobes. I don't even see how you could keep it running with all that spitting and poping from 5 bad cam lobes.
|
Looking at the data logs I find that I am using about 395 lbs of fuel per hour at WOT. Depending on BSHP that figures out at about 700+hp. And a couple of the lobes were worn by .015" over the nose, if I remember correctly. No poping or spitting.. ran nice. Just some rattling noise at idle.. :(
I just wish I had not run over a stinkin weed bed that I didnt know was there. The lake was full of blow boats at the time. I should have realized why they were not in that area. I had only bumped the trim one time.. I really think it would have gone faster... but nobody was with me. Just the GPS tell tale, so I can prove nothing!! Just my word and the GPS that it did.. |
ok not as big as u guys a little toy i got at a good price.......89, 20' with a evinrude 200...i know dont bust me to hard....full tank of fuel (30 gals) 4 people each at approx 150-170 no jack plate or anything with a 22pitch 3 blade raker i hit 60 on lake george in middle of october...any ideas on how i can get more speed with out slapping a jack plate on the back?

Use to have a 1996 Convincor 242 with a blown 540. Fastest it ever ran was at a radar run in Richmond, VA in 2002. With 15lbs of boost and 150hp NOS kit it ran 110.3 mph. Pics below is of the motor after it came out of the 242 and went into my cat. Sold the boat to some dude from OH in 2003. Bow-tie block, 9:1 JEs, custom Crane cam, AFR heads, Crower SS roller rockers, Whipple Inner-cooler, TBS 10-71, Nickerson carbs, and a whole lotta KE parts...

Believe it or not it was fairly stable. As stable goes for a 24ft boat at 110mph. The key was having full hydraulic steering and the delta pad bottom design. Once the boat rocked back on the pad it more or less just sat there. I know you won't believe it, but very little chine walk. The 242 Convincor is an awesome boat! Pic below was with first generation motor. The original 454 with a 177 blower. When I dropped the 540 I had to scoop the sunpad.
|
C112_ that is some awsome #s in a 24' Mate! Do you have any videos or pix?
What does your board name mean? A plane? |
I have a few other pics, but they have to be scanned. Owned the 242 before I got into digital pics. As for the name, after the Checkmate I owned a 28 Commander Cat that ran 112mph with same motor (though de-tuned with only 8lbs of boost, no NOS and pump gas). So I changed board name to Commander112.

my 89 251, no galley, with a 489, 177 blower @ 6-7 psi and a 26 bravo 1 ran 80.4, but did not have hyd steering(yes I know) only tested a few times, handling became a experiance to say the least ! and pulled the blower set-up for a n/a 509 which I put in end of the season...

Has anyone seen performance numbers for a 28' Convincor with twin HP500's?

|
I can spin that 25" P5X to 6100 rpm. That equates to about 12% slip @ 85 mph. Impressive considering I am running a -2 shorty. A long time ago, I ran a 26" B1 . At the time, I had a standard length Imco lower. I dont remember what rpm or speed I got out of that prop, but I do remember pulling the stick back because the engine was revving higher than I wanted. At this point, I dont know how or if my set up would run with a B1. All I know is that the P5X seems right for now. I can pull up on plane easily, turns great, jumps waves, what more can I ask for?

1.50 is the ratio. I am not sure on the rpms. The engine will turn 6200 before hitting the rev limiter. I was so excited I did'nt see the rpms. I will make some more runs this weekend and get more info.:drink:

Was that a bravo 1 28p ?? MAN that boat is flying
:evilb: |
Yup. Bone stock 28p Bravo 1. I'm heading up to Maine tonight. Hopefully the weather cooperates for some boating this weekend.
|
6100 rpm @ 90 something mph. Will have new speedo soon unless I can get my neighbors' handheld gps this weekend. Freakin thing sounds like a jet at full throttle. I just hope everything stays together this season.(XR) This project really put me in the poor house! I will keep you guys posted.

I know this thread is getting old but lets hear some more numbers! I have an update to mine, last year I ran 85mph with a 30p bravo, I just sent it out to cutting edge propellers to be labbed, hoping to break into the high 80's.

96 253 procharged 454MPI with cam/heads/CMI and stock Bravo drive with nosecone and 30" stock bravo one prop. 5400rpm 86gps

Nice man that's fast in a 253. How much HP 700ish?
|
82predictor. Yes original dyno was 704hp at 5250rpm. I was only able to run it for about 2 hrs before the plugged oil line in the procharger burned the compressor up......I had a 26p Bravo then and could only get 76gps (and I was happy with that) I sent the compressor back to ATI and bolted it back on after a complete rebuild.....and wow did the engine wake up! I had no trouble over-revving the 26p so I bought a 30p and spun that beyond where the HP was made on the original dyno so I then bought a 32P(my only brand new prop I every purchased and its more like a 28P...I have to send it back). Obviously the original compressor was on its way out and I really don't know where it makes the most HP or how much it makes now. I got a short video on YouTube (below)....its got CMI TubeTops with 4.5" dry pipes so its pretty loud in the narrow river-LOL

Nice video! Really carrying the bow!

looks and sounds great!
