Subwoofers in Convincors

Anybody running subs in the Convincors? I was running a 10" Bazooka under my rear seat but it blew and I was thinking of a couple of 10" JL's. My concern is I already put (4) 7" JL mids in the rear seat and if I cut out 2 more holes for the 10" subs there won't be much wood left for strength. Anyone have any luck with this? Thanks.

The subs sharing that small space with the mids will adversely effect the sound and longevity of the mids. Each time the large speaker with a large voice coil pulls in, the displaced air is going to push the smaller speaker with the smaller voice coil out even though the small voice coil is trying to pull the small speaker cone in. Probably not a good idea from a tonal accuracy standpoint. Ideally you want the low frequencies low in the boat because they are non directional and the mids and highs up closer to your ears as those frequencies are directional. Best case scenario would be increase the size of the 4 holes in your rear bench and mount 4 subs in there. Try to move your 7.7s up higher in the cockpit sidewall or up in the dash where you can aim them toward your ears. :drink:

i put a single 15 in my ZT, i put it in place where they call the anchor locker in the very bow. it sounds unreal!!!! it uses the cabin as a tube and it just pounds!!!
i see you are in maine, not sure where, but jim from superir systems in peabody mass did my system and holly hell it rocks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! hit him up, he is worth the ride!!! tell him noyzee sent you and he will set you up!! under the rear seat is a ok spot at best. jim can explane

Does the 15 sound boomy? I listen to mostly hard rock. I was told that the larger subs are more boomy for rap and hip hop music? That would be a great place to mount something considering I don't use that space! Thanks.

jim set me up with perfection. the speekers he put in work great to give great sound in all music. i listen to everything from country to rock, to rap, to old school etc etc. it all sounds great. he made a pannal for it, and put dyno mat in the space. it is boomy inside the cabid, but outside it has a great sound.
it all depends on the quality of parts you use as well.
i have the best 15 i could find (rockford) and the best amp i could get (alpine) mix those 2 and wow.
im going to be adding more this spring. cant wait. my boat isnt the fastest or the craziest boat out there, but man people sure hear me. lol

bbpowersports 03-25-2009 02:55 PM

Noyzee can you post a picture of what you did. Sounds like a Plan

noyzee 03-25-2009 04:49 PM

i will once i get my boat back. its still at the boat yard shrink wrapped.
i cant wait.
as soon as its out i will be replacing the 6.5" cabin speekers with the alpine coax, i will be adding 4 7" alpine coax to the cockpit. adding a 2nd amp to power everything, and getting the new alpine marine deck with the remotes. putting one near the driver and one out on the platfor for the beach days. should be sick when its all done. about 1600 watts, 8 speakers out side, 2 inside and a 15" sub inside. it cranked last year with 4- 7" and the 15" with one amp!! i cant wait.

Noyzee, Any pics of your stereo system yet?

noyzee 05-05-2009 01:42 PM

not yet, it is accually at the place now getting the rest of the upgrades. adding 2 more 7" alpines next to the rear seat, adding a 2nd amp, adding a new deck with 2 wired remotes. one by the swim platfor and one on the drivers side. it should be done this week. once its all done i will get a pile of pics of the boat from the stereo to my shinny stuff to my blue lights and new carpet etc etc.
probably about a week or so. if you check out my video i put up you might be able to see the sub in the cabin shot. i will have to watch the vids again and see.

noyzee 05-11-2009 10:47 PM

almost all set for pics, i have 90% of the boat clean. hate to post pics of the boat from winter storage. just finished my 3rd coat of wax on the transom, tomorrow i will be finishing the inside. did the cockpit today, tomorrow the cabin, and if the sun is still up i will get pics. i must say, everyone that sees and hears my system is very impressed.
1200 watts, 6 speakers and a 15" sub sounds unreal!!!!!!!!!!!

Me too.....

I have two 10" Sonys mounted in the rear seat facing outward toward the gunwale. There is a 2"-4" gap in there. Not sure how efficient that is but it sounds pretty good. The lady’s really like sitting on the back seat.
The rear seat box is original 89' Checkmate and I have a little rot at the top where the back meets the seat cushion. I'm going to redo the seat box and maybe face the subs forward near the floor or maybe into the engine compartment. I have four 4" Sonys, two are facing forward from the rear seat box, and two are under the bolsters near the floor. When I redo the rear seat box I want to remount those as well. Two of them will go in the front right under the dash-near your knees when you are driving, and the other two in the fiberglass gunwale right behind the bolsters where the bolster brace is.

just got out of work and its dark no pics. sorry

noyzee 05-15-2009 11:56 AM

i was going to do something under my seat, but i use my boat as a weekend boat so i need as much storage as i can get

Shah Mat 05-15-2009 12:24 PM

My rear seat... the crappy sound is because it was recorded from a phone.

noyzee 06-01-2009 11:24 AM

i finally got pics, now i just have to get them on photobucket.. i'll try to do it tonight

253checkmate 06-01-2009 11:18 PM

So, your subs aren't exposed, right? Sounds like they're contained under the back seat.
I have two 10" Memphis Audio subs I plan to install in my 283 Convincor and I'd prefer to keep them hidden (and not cut holes) if the sound isn't compromised too much. I'm learning a bit as I go. Thoughts?

Shah Mat 06-08-2009 04:46 PM

Yes, they are hidden. When I lift the back seat you can see the magnets. There's not much space on the other side of them but I was told that subs just need enough air on both sides to move freely but they can be sorta confined. I guess the suond can bounce off things and they still sound good, unlike mids and tweeters.

I don't know much about it but I have read that there is a push pull thing with subs moving air and my tight space may not be good. I'm sure there is a better location for them but a 25' boat gets small real quick. My upolstery has to be re-done this winter and I might face them forward.... like toward the feet of someone siting on the back seat.

noyzee 06-08-2009 05:30 PM

the location i put mine are the best. that space behind there is the right size for up to 3 10" subs. i almost went that way, but instead i went with bigger speakers outside.

the problem with under the seat is the sound is muffled if they are 100% in the seat, and facing forward like in a stock baja its good, but again you have no "case" the sound just goes everyplace. my set up uses the hole cabin s its "case/box" then the sound and base comes out the door keeping it clean and clear, and letting my outside speakers give a great sound.
if you heard my system, you would copy it. i could rattle the pics of the wall in your house if i was parked in your driveway, yet it still has a very very clean sound. not like the 17 year old in his honda booooom boooom, nig=ce tight crisp clean sound. i love it!!
