tested my new hydromotive today
tried out my new hydromotive four blade today. WOW is all i can say. granted it is about 2 sizes to big in pitch but the ride is fabulous. nose does not ride high anymore, tail rides higher rough water ride is unbelievable and handling is awsome. i thought i would notice a little difference but this was amazing. it honestly felt like a different boat all together!!

hydro
mxz;we have tryed to tell other check owners about how well this prop works on our hulls,we have also talk to the checkmate factory about how well this prop works.i am sending my hydro back to tom at hydromotive today to have the prop tips feathered for that extra little tweaking. this pro really makes our hulls run a more level attiude as you noted.. safe boating bill

Rob, I hate to say it....but.....I told you so! Now get the right pitch on there and you'll be good to go. As soon as I get my boat to 100% I wanna come over your way for a weekend.
talk soon, Eric |
hey Eric did you need to try a 24 to see if your motor likes more rpm. let me know in the next couple days before i have this changed or sellto get a smaller one. Rob the invite stands open whenever you get time this summer.

Hydromotive prop
hi guys,i'm pretty new on here, hopefully someone can tell what prop I need on my 1997/253 w/ 502/450 engine,it sounds like hydromotive works very well, how much diffrent is it from my bravo 1 /4 blade, also what pitch would you use, thanks
|
Welcome!!
253, What size is the Bravo prop you are using now? The Bravo prop is a bow lifting prop. The hydromotive is a stern lifting prop. Usually you'll get better cruise speed and plane time from Bravo. But better top end speed and handling with the Hydromotive.
Does you boat chine walk at or near top speed? Eric |
253;
I have talked to Hydromotive on this subject. From what they told me, when comparing a Bravo 1 to a Hydromotive there are a few differences: A 24 pitch Hydromotive means that the prop has an average of 24 pitch measuring from the leading edge to the tail end of the blade. There is a 3" progression of pitch from the 2 ends. While a Bravo 24 pitch is measured from the tail edge of the prop, so in fact a Bravo 24 has really only a 22 1/2 pitch. The Hydro blade has a straighter tail end when compared to the more curved Bravo. I believe he told me that is one of the reasons a Hydro will outperform a Bravo in rough water. BUT, he also told me that a Bravo will outrun a Hydro in flat calm water. CheckmateF1 filled you in on the bow and stern lift. I am sure I forgot alot of things on this subject. We were on the phone for a long time, he must have told me more, but that is all that comes to mind. Maybe guys here can fill in some more information for you. |
Another happy Hydro owner!! I went Hydro last year thanks to Erics recomndation and had the same felling first time out, it was a different boat.
Eric, you should get some commission from Hydromotive! |
My last motor in my 98 253 was a 502/450hp crate motor and a Hydromotive 22 4 blade worked great!:D
Mark |
my original prop is 22 pitch ,4 blade, bravo 1,last year I had it reworked to a 23 pitch with a lot of cup, this really helped it on top speed and stern lift, when triming up I can feel the 253 lift up on top of the water much more than with original specs,I just repowered to the 502,only 1 hour on new engine, taking it easy .

just wanted to say i talked to checkmate and that new prop seemed more comparible to a mirage plus. as usuall you couldnt find a nicer bunch of people to talk to. thanx for the advice Kipp and Mike. Rob

I thought it was funny that Hydromotive was trying to talk me out of using their props. I told them that I put Whipples on my 454 mags and they didn't want anything to do with it. He did not want me to be disappointed with Hydromotive and go out and bad mouth them. Well...I got a real deal on a set of 28p. Q-4's. Lake Michigan was too rough to open it up all the way but what I got was a real thrill. At 4400 I was around 80 MPH. The acceleration was push you back in the seat. I hope the lake is better this weekend. I want to see if I can turn them up to 5000. I'm sorry Hydromotive, you were wrong. I love these props.

MATE 229 WHAT PITCH HYDRO DO YOU HAVE AND WHAT RPM
ARE YOU RUNNING AT WOT. WHAT IS YOUR TOP SPEED. |
I bought a used labbed 24 off the OSO classifieds. I would like to try a 23 or 22. I'm getting 4800 rpm and around 72mph. I lost some rpm which was running 5000 with the Mirage and about 3mph top end , but I can control the boat now. The Mirage chine walked and got scary. Also don't have the porpoise problem I had cruising at 3000 rpm.
|
MATE 229 I TRIED A 22 HYDRO, RPM WAS 5300 WITH A TOP SPEED
OF 70MPH. HANDLING WAS AWSOME, I KNOW ALL ABOUT THE SCARY CHINE WALKING WITH A THREE BLADE MIRAGE. A 23 PITCH HYDRO FOUR BLADE SHOULD DO IT. RPM WILL BE AROUND 4950-5000 AND TOP SPEED SHOULD BE THE SAME AS MY 25 P MIRAGE. |
checkmate 229 do you still have that 22 hydro 4 blade? if so i have a 24 that has been slightly labbed and perfectly balanced that i need to get cut down or trade for a 22. let me know
Rob |
The 22 pitch hydro went back to my friend.
He has a 25 baja that the prop came off from. |
