Default 251 convincor prop?

Just got a new boat. It is a 1992 251 convincor, motor is a 540 making about 600-625hp. My question is if any one has a similar setup what prop are you running? I had it out sunday with 4 people and 3/4 tank of fuel and could not get above 3800rpm without the prop blowing out. Right now it has a ballistic 26p 3 blade and it slips alot. I had one suggestion to run a bravo 1 26p 4 blade. Does that sound about right?

i would say the 26p bravo would be too small. i'd try a 28p bravo or a 27p hydromotive.

i had a 253 convincor w/ 575hp and ran a 26 hydro.

that prop no good for that boat...try the 26 bravo 1, may need 28..just have to give it a shot...ran a blower setup with that kind of power and the 26 worked well...

i had a 99 251 classic for about 4 years that i built a 540ci. for putting out about 600 hp. i ran a stock 28 bravo and it would push the boat to 80.4 on gps at 5150 rpm. and 78 on gps all day with 3-4 people on board. no blow out. the mid range was better with a 26 bravo but last top end and to many rpm's (5300-5400. that might give you piece of mine.
