one thing that did bother me is that im getting alot of water inside the transom bracket...it has a drain plug so i assume that this is semi-normal....just felt like it was a bit more than to be expected....it was in the water for about 22 hours and prolly had round 10 gallons in it id say......dont want any water damage....
any thoughts??? |

any thoughts??? Probably from the deckplate, I put vaseline on the o-ring to minimize this. |
heres a question (or two) for you guys:
what should i see for top speed? whats the max rpm on the 2.5 promax? ima start airing the boat out a bit more as i get used to it and just wana know what rpm/ speed i should be seeing when im maxed out. its got 26 pitch choppers on it now..... LIGHTSPEED, the guy that built and rigged this boat from new with three different sets of motors, and i have been talkin and he says the boat ran 77 mph on gps with the exact setup i have now. i hope hes right! that would be killer! rchevelle71: can you explain a lil more? im not sure wht you mean when you say deck plate...and what o ring are you talkin bout? thanks!! |
Is there a removable plate on the top of the transom bracket? If so, there should eb an o-ring between the removable plate itself, and the mounting ring.

Cool boat, only drawback to me is the red interior. That red vinyl will blister your ass if you forget to cover it.

Congrats on the boat. You will love the outboards. I have a 28 with twins and love it. Have carb motors but still does great on fuel.
|
Congrats on the new boat. I used to see it out at our local beach quite often.
|
yeah the red interior isnt an issue at all! i was thinkin that it night be be i was surprised that neither the paint or the interior got hot enough to present a problem. was it hotter than white? yes....but not enought o notice or complain about.
thanks to all you guys! i love the boat and cant wait to spend the next week on the water for the fourth! just had both motors serviced today. starboard engine had 3 of the four lower motor mount bolts broken off. somebody didnt use anti sieze and got rough tryin to get em out and snappe dem. gnna be drillin and tapppin those in the mornin. both lower units had the wrong plug in em and both impellers were on the verge of disintegrating. ill have it all straightnened out and ready to go in the mornin..... |
My 2800 SX arrives July 3rd! We'll have to compare notes. I'll be setting up my boat initially with twin Merc 2.4 Liter 200's, 25" mids, Bob's nose coned lower units just to get her back on the water. We'll have to compare notes!

Here's an interesting history thread on some 2800SX's I've found:

Pics are posted. I started a new thread on my boat. Chevy, you get your gearcase back yet??
got a few props to try out. just hid 84 feet of red LED rope light in the cabin and cuddy! lights up the boat real nice. put two cup holders in the dash my red anchor shade came in also. put a removable floor in the cuddy and built removable rear sun deck over the splash well. having the upholstery done in a couple weks. ima do the entire thing in light grey two tone top stitch. im ready to hit the water! |
My 225 pms' with Brucato ACUs' have the rev limiters removedspinning 15x30 Spinellis. The motors have a 6850 rpm limit from Mercury if I'm not mistaken. I've turned them to 6500 until I raised the motors last weekend when the clutch dog gave out at 9 am sat morning. Party over until hopefully this weekend. I ran 26 big ear choppers on my T-Bred with 260s' to 7400 rpm.

my cabin is EMPTY! lol
noting but stringers and bulkheads. its fiberglased and coated very nicely tho. i built a false floor with storage under it for the cushions. it runs all the way up to where the keel rises up above the stringers. it mad ea nice lil chill out spot and withthe 19x19 bomar hatch it should get at leaset a lil ventilation. Bullet: how high are your engines in relation to the bottom of the boat. Brett at blades suggested raising the motors up some on my boat to reduce bow leverage. my engines are on the lowest setting on the bracket putting the prop shafts dead even withthe bottom of theboat withthe tips of the sportmasters 29 inches from the transom. also...my props are turning in...he also suggested that i turn them out to get less bow lift and more transom lift.... |
double post...

with your concern about having to much bow lift, and all that extra space in the front why not put a balast tank up there like the race guys do..or for the time being, throw some 50 pound sand bags up there, I know its adding weight..but its adding weight in the right places..kinda like setting up a race car with the moving the weight around to get the balance right..and then if you find this is better, you could almost move your batteries up to the bow of the boat, instead of a ballast tank..
I have been thinking of doing this with my baja. It has a fully gutted cabin too. And boat has been lightented up alot. So it rides bow high all the time..but I use the tabs alot. But if I throw 100 pounds in the bow it will maybe keep the bow in the water more. Its awesome for all out speed..but not the best set up rough water.. |
