The funny thing is...for years the Offshore crowd frowned upon outboard motors..including myself based upon my past history of owning a Velocity I/O and working for Fountain and Active Thunder. Once I got out of the big offshore boats & boat business(too much money to own, repair, insure and gas) and bought my first small outboard boat I never looked back. Now after owning a 17' Checkmate Spectra 170/Merc 150XR2, a Checkmate Pulsare 2100/Merc 225XRi, a 21' Talon/Mercury Racing 2.5 carb, a Hydrostream Valero YT/Merc Blackmax 175, and a Hydrostream AE-21 tunnel/Merc 2.5, (most all of them ran in excess of 80MPH) I'm enjoying boating with alot less headaches and $$$. This Checkmate 2800SX will be by first twin outboard powered sportboat and very similar to yours. My boat has 24" of setback so both boats our boats should be close in setup. Looking forward to seeing your progress!
