how high should my motors be?
 

i was wondering if anyone could give me any advice on where the motors should be run on this boat?

they are all the way down on the bracket now.

how do i know that they are in the correct position? can i run a straight edge off the bottom of the boat to see if the nose cones are in the optimum position.

LIGHTSPEED said he thought they were in the middle position on the bracket when he rigged the boat and it ran 77 with the current setup.

i havnt maxed the boat out yet but i was just wondering what some of the more learned boaters may have yo say on the subject.

im runnin 26p mercury choppers.....

raise them until you lose water pressure then lower a little as long as you are happy with out of the hole performance and they dont blow out in a corner you are good jmo

With a straight edge in front of the nose cone I am running 5 inches below the hull, that has been my best setup but my boat only runs 63 right now. You should be able to run a little higher with choppers and your amount of set back. You will have to see what your top speed and max rpm is. Only make slight adjustments and test with same conditions.

Trim The motors Till They Are Even With The Bottom Then Put The Straight Edge On The Bottom To The Center Of The Gear Case,,, Center Of The Prop Shaft Should Even With The Bottom,, It If Not Bring Motors Up Till It Is ,,U Got Alot Of Set Back On There,, Thats Your Starting Point,,,U Still Might Have To Go Higher,,Water Pressure Is Key 10 Lbs No Less At Full Speed

if it werent for you helppin me along the whole time...i wouldnt have bought the boat. you been great and i appreciate it.

checked motor height today...the center line of the shaft is dead even witht he bottom the boat directly in fro of each motor.

seems as thoug i should be able to go up at least one position on the bracket with this much set back.

what do you think lightspeed?

and what results should i see by raising my motors? better/different handling? better/worse planing? higher speeds?

You could try going up another notch on the clamp. Just keep an eye on the water pressure. If you go too high you may loose the leverage you need to "lift/carry" the bow out of the water. There's a fine line to getting the perfect setup. It's a balance between motor setback, motor height, prop pitch and water pressure! Hyd. jackplates sure make it alot easier.....my 28 Checkmate arrives tuesday morning!!

Ya with that much set back, you could probably have the prop-shaft of the motors higher then the bottom of the boat..Put a set of hydraulic jack-plates on there and you can adjust them whenever..

I agree with the above posts, but personally I would leave it as is until you get seat time, then tinker for max speed.
