Steve-
I have a 94 283 Convincor this is 27'11" without the platform today it is know as the 303. Has a fresh 509 and new interior in the cockpit(execpt carpet). Tons of room in the cuddy two opposing lounges, and a v-berth my wife and I have overnighted in it quite a few times over the last two years. The lounges have fillers to make it into a bed also. We had it right at 63(62.8)radar at the omaha shootout last fall so it is a true 60mph boat. Love the boat but I'm kinda itchy for a larger boat, if you'd be interested let me know.

Steve;

I have a '99 259 (aka 270 ) with a 454 magnum. Slight bit of work to motor, Gil Exhaust, Teague Flame Arrestor, adjustable fuel regulator, MSD ignition. I spin a stock 24" Bravo 4 blade. I see about 67 g.p.s. at 5000 r.p.m.
Wild Willy gave you a very accurate run down of the interior and hull. It runs best in the chop, solid performer all around. I could not put a price on the boat you described. as was said before too many variables. The main variable is which 454 does it have?? Whos' steering? Single ram or dual? Which graphics package?

Steve_H 01-15-2003 06:08 PM

Steve,

That motor is the 454 MPI. It is good reliable piece, but be aware that attempts to add power to it will become difficult due to the fact that the lower end is contains cast components not steel as are in the 454 Magnums. Also, the intake manifold or plenum is restrictive compared to the magnum plenums.

One other thing, why are there 2 deck hatches? I have never seen that before. All the other Checkmates I have seen have only 1 hatch on the deck.

Steve_H 01-16-2003 12:31 AM

checkmate454mag , thanks for the info.

im going to see how much they want for the 540.

HiPerf2000 01-16-2003 09:11 AM

that's a decent price for that boat. i would look to see what they want for it with the 540. You won't be happy with the base 454 motor in the boat. It will run around 60mph (radar). i have a '97 253 Convincor with 575hp. Same hull...runs 80.9 . With the 625hp you will have a nice running boat.

jmorganste 01-16-2003 11:52 AM

hi-perf-2000 I don't think the 253 andthe 259-270 are the same hulls.

HiPerf2000 01-16-2003 12:12 PM

my buddy has a 259. side by side in the rack the "wetted running surfaces" appear to be the same. both have the notched transom step and the same x dimension. Up top is a diferent story. he has about 6-8" more room in the cockpit, where i have it in the cabin bench seats. plus his is wider in the cockpit area.

lotoparty, Check out this site limitedperformanceboats.com. 2000 Check 259 my old boat runs real good.

HiPerf2000 01-17-2003 02:04 PM

I see you posted in the general discussion board about a formula. Did you decide against the checkmate?? How much did they want for it with the 540??

Steve_H 01-17-2003 05:22 PM

im not ruling anything out. ive always liked the looks and resale of formulas. mainly , im just trying to find a good clean deal. got boat fever bad the last time i bought and didnt shop around enough. this time im taking my time to get the right boat. something that will hold its value somewhat down the road. ill admit it , im still learning.:o

the checkmate with the 540 is priced at 45k.

im trying to stay under 35k.

ted lamparty 01-17-2003 08:37 PM

I believe that boat is a 259 that they're calling a 270. There is no real difference just checkmate started adding the swimplatform to the legnthof the 259 and calling it a 270. I don't think they started making 'calling' the boat a 270 until 2001 or 2002. When I bought my 2000 259 there was no such thing as a 270.

mxz800 01-18-2003 05:44 PM

i have a 99 259 (270) and i am very happy with it. i have the 7.4 385hp and have seen 67 usually 64-65 gps. i have never seen a 259 with the extra hatch towards the front. also what is the gauge just under the windshield towards the center must be an add on. i would like to compare X dimensions with some other 259 owners as i believe mine is deeper than usual!

Thanx Rob

Steve_H 01-18-2003 05:58 PM

the extra hatch was put in at the owners request.

the graphics are also custom according to the owner.

dont know about the gauge.

Hi lotoparty,

I have a '97 251 Convincor with a 2002 500 hp EFI. The boat runs very fast and I'm very satisfied with the perfomance of the engine. In my opinion it is the best engine for that type of boat. Regarding the cabin, it is really large with two opposing lounges and a bed at the end as well as a porti-potty in the middle (underneath the bed). The only thing I don't like about the boat is, that if the boat runs between 2500 and 3500 rpm falls aside, if people move inside the boat. Maybe somebody of you got an idea.

How long are your trim tapes?
